the 23rd state with an AED Law for schools, and one of the few mandating an AED in both public and private K-12 schools in the state. Congratulations to PHW members Karen and Jim Zilinski who demonstrated the dedication and perseverance necessary to make this law a reality.
In addition to New Jersey, it has been a busy few months for other PHW Members and SCA advocates across the country. Bills are moving along, or have been passed in several states recently. Special congratulations to PHW members Darren and Phyllis Sudman for the passage of the Pennsylvania House Bill 1610, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Act, which was signed into law by Governor Tom Corbett and goes into effect on July 30.
Other state legislative highlights include:
Massachusetts: Senate Bill 2132, Michael's Law, relating to medical emergency response plan for schools was signed by the Governor on April 18, 2012.
Illinois: On June 28th Governor Pat Quinn signed a law that makes it permissible for 6-8th graders across the state to watch a free short training video on Hands Only CPR and how to use an AED.
Louisiana - House Bill 362 which allows high schools that participate in interscholastic athletics to have an AED at the athletic director's option was signed by the Governor on June 11, 2012.
