PHW Announces Heroes for Young Hearts First Annual Conference Awards Program
Heroes for Young Hearts will take place annually at the Friday evening dinner on the opening night of the PHW Conference. The inaugural ceremony will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 in San Diego.
We want your input by November 12th! PHW is seeking nominations from you! Please review the criteria and categories below and submit your nominations, with supporting information via e-mail to contact@parentheartwatch.org by Friday, November 12, 2010.
Please be as specific as possible in your description of the nominee, including what actions they have taken between October 2009 and October 2010 to support the PHW mission (i.e. placed 50 AEDs, organized three community screenings, etc.).
Criteria: All nominees must demonstrate a continuous commitment in their local community to raise awareness of SCA in youth, by taking specific actions that support the PHW mission of protecting youth from Sudden Cardiac Arrest and preventable Sudden Cardiac Death. Nominees are not required to be PHW members.
Advocacy Champion -Adult (Must be 21 years of age or older) Advocacy Champion - Youth (Must be 20 years of age or younger) Young Survivor Champion (Must be an SCA survivor 25 years of age or younger)

PHW Members Cris and Skip Over of the Nicholas Ryan Over Foundation placed the ad to the left in a local newspaper in recognition of National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month. The ad, which highlighted the PHW website, was placed in memory of Nick Over, Janna Foster, Kyle Edmunds, Jesse Yeakle and all the other children lost to SCA....Sue Apodaca and Darla Varrenti of the Nick of Time Foundation have been very busy! Throughout October they made presentations at various schools, conducted a heart screening for 400 students, and hosted The Heart of Seattle School Gala. Congratulations!.... PHW Board Member Rhonda Foster was featured in the Harrisburg Magazine as a "Mover & Shaper"...... The Darius Jones Foundation held the First Annual 5k Run/Walk to prevent SCA through Awareness and Education on October 16th. More than 500 people registered for the event.
Special congratulations to PHW Medical Advisory Board Member Dr. Joseph Marek. His Young Hearts for Life (YH4L) program administered its 50,000th free screening in the Chicago area in October. YH4L will continue screening and saving lives, throughout the remainder of the school year.

PHW Joins Sudden Cardiac Arrest Coalition at Washington, D.C. Briefing
Parent Heart Watch participated with more than 40 organizations on Capitol Hill on October 5th to issue a call to action in reducing Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) deaths.
