Back to School: Time to Check AEDs
School is back in session and sports leagues are in full swing, making this a great time to check how well-prepared your child's school, sports league and venue are when it comes to responding to a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
First and foremost, find out if the facilities are equipped with an automated external defibrillator (AED), CPR & AED trained personnel and/or volunteers and an Emergency Action Plan.
- Publicly accessible.
- Operational with a) working battery, and b) adult & pediatric electrodes.
- Properly identified with a three dimensional AED sign that can be viewed from every angle, if mounted on the wall.
At sporting events and practices, an AED should be on the sidelines in its original carrying case or a properly labeled backpack. |
