Fit PRO Convention
I
recently attended a key industry fitness convention and the upshot of all the latest thinking seems to be an emphasis on muscle training/building/ shaping as opposed to such an emphasis on cardiovascular work. As you'll see from some of the articles we have included CV work is still important - but so is muscle training because it effects, so greatly, the body composition- so don't shy away from it!

Choose what you want:

Just a thought...A client that I assessed last week - expressed how much she now enjoyed doing Tai Chi and Chi kung that she and her trainer have been doing recently. She said that she hadn't realised that she could ask for this kind of training. This made me think!  And I want to alert everyone to the fact that if you think of another type of training you would like to try - then please tell us!        Click here  Don't become frustrated by your old routine but mention anything you want to try to your trainer or us at the office, and we'll arrange it.
If your current trainer doesn't do it we will (almost certainly) have another one who does! Check out your tri-fold leaflet (that should be in your folder) to see the options for work outs we have listed or click here to remind yourself.
Congratulations this month to:

  1. Our client Frances from Blackheath she did a great marathon time-well done to her!
  2. Also Congratulations to our trainer Leila who came 3rd in her body building competition!

If you need to lose body fat -ask Leila!!

We can now offer Street Dance!

Street dance is an umbrella term used to describe dance styles that evolved outside of dance studios at more everyday spaces such as streets, schoolyards and nightclubs. These dances are often improvisational and social in nature, encouraging interaction with spectators and other dancers. Today, streetdance is commonly used specifically for the many hip-hop and funk dance styles originating from the African-Amercian communities in the 1970s but one can also see elements of ballet, contempary dance and martial arts in some of these styles.
Streetdance classes offer an element of fun, fitness and coordination and are now becoming very popular in health clubs and schools.
So - like to try it ?

HOLIDAYS A-COMING........ May 08
Greetings!

Beach girl
Sorry this newsletter has run a little late this quarter but at least now the sun is out (from time to time!) and so some of the articles we had planned seem a little more relevant!
So are you prepared to bare your body on the beach, if not don't panic it's not too late to do something about it, we have founds some useful hints and tips for your.

Chrissie

Get your body ready for summer:

1.     Work on your fitness at least 3 days per week:

  • Most important, build muscle strength, even modestly resistance training (weights, bands, machines, calisthenics, pushups, sit ups, pull ups) will help shift your metabolism into a fat-burning mode
  • Resistance training is the most efficient form of exercise for weight control, which affects all aspects of health and aging (heart, diabetes, hip-knee arthritis, cancer)
  • We highly suggest you purchase, if you don't already have one, a simple heart rate monitor that you can wear during exercise so you always stay in your peak fat-burning range. The highest quality heart rate monitors on the market that we can recommend are the Polar heart rate monitors. Click here to order one from us!

    2. ALWAYS eat breakfast. If you want to maximize your fitness results or fat-loss efforts, you must eat breakfast.
  • Even if you don't exercise at all - breakfast remains the most important meal of the day. Your breakfast should contain complete proteins and complex carbohydrates (if you're trying to lose weight, you should eat the bulk of your complex carbohydrates at breakfast and lunch and only have vegetable carbohydrates at dinner). A great breakfast is oatmeal (not the pre-packaged, pre-sweetened kind) with some Proto Whey protein powder mixed in.
  • Martha Stewart has a great (easy) recipe for poached salmon that she eats for breakfast most everyday with a piece of toast: Fill a saucepan wide enough to hold salmon with 2 1/2 inches cold water. Stir in 1/4 cup lemon juice, the celery, parsley, and 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 minutes. Transfer salmon to a plate, and let cool 20 minutes. Discard poaching liquid. Flake salmon into large pieces. A great way to start the day!

    3. Include fish at least twice a week into your meal plan...

15-minute Yoga How to get the right Sun Tan

It's nearly vacation time, and you need the perfect tan. Not the splotchy burns or tan lines of last year, but an even, healthy golden glow all over your body. Tanning salon? Spray on lotions? Those are definitely options, but if you love the feeling of a natural tan at the beach, and the ambience of lying outside near the surf, read on.

Yes, it's a fact the sun's natural rays can be harmful. Skin cancer is rising, and sunburns are a constant threat. Does this mean the end of feeling the sand beneath your toes and listening to the soothing sounds of the ocean? No, of course not! You can tan more safely. There are a few easy steps to take beforehand to prepare yourself:

  1. Smooth yourself - A few days or weeks before you head to the beach, before you shower every morning, buff your skin with a body brush in gentle, circular motions to ensure smooth skin and better circulation. During your shower, exfoliate with a soft body scrub to brush away dead and dry skin. This will give your skin a soft, even surface for your tan.
  2. Moisten - After your shower, take the time to apply a rich body cream to seal in moisture and keep your skin feeling smooth. A daily moisturizer is essential to minimize damage to your skin from UV rays. After tanning, it doesn't hurt to apply a cream to your skin again. If you're on vacation, you'll probably shower before heading out for a night on the town, so this would be the perfect time for a moisturizer.
