WHAT'S COOKING at OCI ISSUE 12
Greetings!

Greetings from Oregon Culinary Institute!

We hope your 2012 is off to a great start.  We know ours is, and a big reason why is the new video advertisements that we recently released. Have you seen it?  If not, we've included the 30-second spot, as well as the shorter 15-second culinary and 15-second baking and pastry versions. We are very proud to say that all of the people in the ad are OCI students, grads, and instructors, and all of the locations are partners that OCI works with.  In fact, we used YouTube's annotations tool to illustrate this in the video that you can get to by clicking on the fourth image, below.

If you're in the Portland metro region, you might see these ads on television, especially if you're watching food related shows.

We hope you enjoy them, and maybe we'll see you at OCI in the near future!

The ad below is the same as the first :30 second version - with annotations added that tell some of the inside story about this ad, such as who the students are and what the locations are.  You will need to pause it a few times to catch everything!

KITCHEN NINJAS / MASTERS in the ART of LIVING...

Did you notice the text in the ads?  Here is the ad copy:

Kitchen Ninjas draw no distinction between...
Labor and Leisure
Education and Recreation
Work and Play
They Pursue Their Vision of Excellence
in EVERYTHING they do.

In case you were wondering where that came from, Executive Chef and OCI co-founder Brian Wilke reads this poem (credited to James Michener) at every graduation:

The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both.

While working with Actual Industries on the conceptualization of this ad, OCI President Eric Stromquist kept coming back to this as an embodiment of the OCI ethos that he wanted to share with our community.

See you in the kitchens...
