Hurricane Isaac Forces Evacuation, Strands Others
Crawford & Company Appraisers and Adjusters Responding |

More than 20 inches of rain from Hurricane Isaac's assault on the Gulf coast threaten an 8-foot tall levee in southeastern New Orleans, endangering thousands of people who ignored evacuation orders from authorities. Throughout metro New Orleans, there have been considerable reports of destruction from high winds, including roof damage, downed fences, flooding, and fallen trees on houses. Power outages affect nearly a million customers across Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The National Weather Service has warned, "life threatening hazards from storm surge and inland flooding are still occurring" throughout parts of the Gulf Coast, as the slow-moving CAT 1 hurricane spawned at least three tornadoes overnight in MS and AL.
Crawford personnel continue providing damage assessments in the area, but the overall severity of claims reported is not expected to be as great as they could have been. Based on current assessments; however, we still expect a large quantity of smaller-sized claims that will need adjustment.
