Hurricane Irene Updates for Parking, Driving, Subways & Buses
Hurricane Irene

We’ve compiled a list of changes to parking regulations, bridge and tunnel closures, MTA subway and bus closures, taxi fare changes, and how to get updates. Here are the highlights, and you can find all the information at the Park It! blog. We’ll be updating it regularly. .

  • Street Parking Sat, Sun, Mon -- Alternate Side Parking and Meter Regulations are suspended
  • Street Parking Tues Aug 30 - Sat, Sept 3 -- Alternate Side Parking Regulations suspended but you have to feed the parking meter. This can change at any time, though.
  • Garage Parking -- our garage partners tell us garages are already getting full. Remember that if the garage attendants can't get to work (because the subways and buses may shut down), then you won't be able to get your car out.
  • Taxis -- we're now on a Zone Fare System. $10 maximum fare in any zone per person, $5 to cross zones. Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and Bronx are each one zone. Manhattan above 60th St and below 60th St are separate zones.
  • MTA Subways & Buses -- will stop service at noon on Sat, Aug 27. It can take up to 8 hours to fully close the system.
  • Metro-North -- suspending service on Saturday, Aug 27th. Grand Central Terminal is closed when service is suspended.
  • NYC Bridges -- may close if there are sustained winds exceeding 60 mph
