Recognizing SBA's 2010 New Hampshire Small Business Person of the Year Todd Adelman, CEO and Founder of Portsmouth based Trade Wings, SBDC client Sky-Skan, Inc. as the SBA New Hampshire 2010 Small Business Exporter of the Yearand NH SBDC's Hollis McGuire, recipient of the SBA's SBDC Service Excellence & Innovation Center of the Year award. These recipients, along with 7 other awardees, will be honored at the Awards Luncheon on May 13th.

Citizens Bank recognized SBDC State Director Mary Collins and the NH SBDC with its "Good Citizens" Award at the bank's 14th annual community partners celebration. The bank presents the award to individuals and organizations for their leadership, vision and outstanding commitment to the state of New Hampshire.

Gov. John Lynch and his Jobs Cabinet recently announced a regional Business Finance Fair will be held, giving businesses the opportunity to meet with representatives from area banks, credit unions and other financial resource organizations. The fair is open to businesses of all sizes and sectors, entrepreneurs and anyone interested in starting a business.

Energy-Efficiency Loans Available for Small and Microbusinesses 
A new revolving loan fund is making low-interest loans available to small businesses for energy-efficiency improvements and renewable-energy projects in their New Hampshire buildings.  The Enterprise Energy Fund is a low-interest loan and grant program to help finance energy improvements in buildings owned or leased by businesses and nonprofits of all sizes. The NH Community Loan Fund will lend $1 million to small commercial businesses and nonprofits. The NH Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA) will lend $2.5 million for larger projects.
 
IRS's Virtual Small Business Tax Workshop

This interactive resource helps small business owners learn about their federal tax rights and responsibilities and is available online and on CD. Users receive the most up-to-date tax law changes when taking the workshop online, but the CD version of the workshop is also free and can be ordered through the IRS Small Business Products Online Ordering web page.

 
How Flexible is Your Business?
Are you a New Hampshire employer using workplace flexibility as a winning and effective business strategy? If so, apply online for the 2010 Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility. Application deadline is April 16th.
 
The Amoskeag Business Incubator's "Ask-the-Expert" for April, "Women Owned Businesses - What's All the Fuss About?"
Christine Davis, the Executive Director of the Women's Business Center, talks about the growing rate of female entrepreneurs and the resources available for women who are in business or would like to be.
 
The 2010 Lean & Green Awards will spotlight NH businesses in three categories including: a green practices award for processes instituted by your company to create more environmentally sound business practices and based on the size of your company; a product/service award; and a green structure award.
 
OSHA Training Institute Offers New Course
Online training is now available in Spanish for the OSHA 10 hour Construction Outreach Training. Plus the new April to September OTIEC/Keene State College course schedule is available online.
 
Gov. John Lynch and the Executive Council recently approved the use of federal Workforce Investment Act funds to establish two new innovative programs to help North Country residents build their own businesses and connect North Country workers with jobs. White Mountain Community College in Berlin will administer the two new programs: The North Country Business Launch Pad and the New Hampshire Talent Team.

10 Hour OSHA Course
This is for any contractor who needs the 10 hour OSHA card for work in NH. Presented by Brian Phelps of NH DES. This workshop is free, but space is limited!

QuickBooks

This session will introduce you to QuickBooks, assist you with setting up your company, and teach you how to work with customers and vendors.

This session will help businesses develop sound financial record-keeping processes using QuickBooks by working with bank accounts, entering sales and invoices, receiving payments, entering bills, and analyzing financial data.

This workshop is an introduction to methods and tactics for improving your online marketing efforts. It is best suited for the business owner who wants to gain a better understanding of these topics in order to make better-informed decisions for optimizing their websites.
