Timely Tools for Entrepreneurs

Beginning on June 15, SBA will start guaranteeing America's Recovery Capital (ARC) loans. ARC loans are deferred-payment loans of up to $35,000 available to established, viable, for-profit small businesses that need short-term help to make their principal and interest payments on existing qualifying debt. ARC loans are interest-free to the borrower, 100% guaranteed by the SBA, and have no SBA fees associated with them.
Disaster preparedness for homes and businesses should include:
- A solid emergency response plan.
- Adequate insurance.
- Making copies of important records.
- A "Disaster Survival Kit."
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) provides a number of tax incentives for businesses, including expanded net operating loss carryback, discharge of business indebtedness, and others.
Businesses planning to claim the newly-expanded work opportunity tax credit (WOTC) for eligible unemployed veterans and unskilled younger workers hired during the first part of 2009 have until Aug. 17 to request the certification required for these workers, according to the IRS.
