Two Important Calls to

Make Today

First Call to Congress on Child Nutrition Reauthorization

child drinking milkThe child nutrition bill will go to the House floor for a vote on Wednesday. This critical bill will increase children's opportunities for healthy meals and is an important first step to tackling both child hunger and childhood obesity. However, it remains uncertain whether the bill has the votes needed for passage, and your help is needed to ensure that it does.

This is our last chance to get a child nutrition bill this year. Please take these two steps right now to make sure all children have the healthy start they need:

1.       Call your Representative. Dial 1-877-698-8228 and enter your zip code to be connected directly to your Representative's office. Deliver this simple message:

Congress must not adjourn without passing the child nutrition bill. Please vote yes for the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (S. 3307)!

2.       Forward this action alert. Share this action alert with partner organizations and colleagues and ask them to call Congress.

We have one last chance to make our voices heard. You can help push the child nutrition bill over the goal line by calling your Representative today!

Second Call to the White House on Child Care and Head Start Funding

Call the White House and ask President Obama to remind Congress to support early childhood funding in the federal budget!  Nationally, 300,000 children stand to lose early learning services provided by Early Head Start, Head Start and child care if current funding levels are not maintained.

The president and key White House staff are currently discussing the budget-and we must tell them that young children and families cannot afford to lose quality early care and education during these difficult times.

Join Every Child Counts and other early childhood advocates TODAY by calling the White House and asking President Obama to remind Congress not to cut this vital funding.

Contact the White House Today

1.  Leave a message on the White House comment line: 202-456-1111.

Sample voicemail message: My name is (name) from (City, State). Please urge Congress not to drop 300,000 children from early learning programs! Make sure that continued funding for Early Head Start, Head Start and the Child Care Development Block Grant is NOT REDUCED in the FY 2011 appropriations bill, and that the Early Learning Challenge Fund is included. Thank you.

Young children need many voices to speak up for them! Please forward this email to your friends, family and coworkers, and share it on Facebook and Twitter.

Sincerely,

Sheila Hansen
