Every Child Counts Legislative Alert
I know I just sent out two alerts last night but this is the second funnel week and many bills will die if they aren't acted upon this week.......

Iowans need your help!  Contact your Legislator in the House today and ask him/her to support SF 2235.

SF2235 would put an end to the practice of discriminating against low income Iowans who have the money to pay for a deliverable fuel (primarily propane) during the winter months. The bill requires that deliverable fuels vendors may not refuse a customer who has cash to pay up front (enough to buy at least 250 gallons), or a LIHEAP (Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program) benefit from November 1 through April 1 of each year.

Rural Iowans who heat with propane have no consumer protections and no protection from winter shut-off, unlike customers of other types of utilities. Desperate families without access to sage heat have been forced to overload space heaters, run electric ovens with open doors, override propane regulators with barbecue tanks, or use a variety of other potentially hazardous ways to stay alive.

Let's make sure every family in Iowa is able to have heat in winter-especially when they have the money to pay for it.

This bill passed the Senate on February 24th and is now eligible for debate in the House!  Unfortunately, it looks like some legislators in the House aren't convinced that every family in Iowa should have access to heat.

Please contact your legislator in the House and ask him/her to support SF 2235
