Green Remodeling and
Deep Energy Retrofits
Yestermorrow
Saturday & Sunday, September 15 - 16
Yestermorrow, Warren, VT

There are about 125 million existing homes in the U.S. representing the most significant and yet challenging opportunities to save energy and reduce our carbon footprint. But how do we approach green remodeling differently than new construction? This course, led by green building expert Peter Yost, will use the new web-based tool, GreenBuildingAdvisor.com, to make the comprehensive case for green remodeling. This will be a "soup-to-nuts" approach to green remodeling, covering all of the essential principles of building science on projects ranging from weatherization to gut rehab to deep energy retrofits. Day 1 will focus on green remodeling principles and the tools available to employ them. Day 2 will be driven by case studies (including the 8-year deep energy retrofit of Peter's own 100-year old home) and YOUR projects; bring plans, photos, drawings, etc. to bring green remodeling home!

A New Guide to the "Sexy"

Energy Solution  Guide

We instinctively know that insulation is the obvious solution to a very common problem, but low energy costs have allowed us for too long to give it short shrift. We are certain to grab a good coat when we go outside on a cold day, yet most of the buildings we inhabit are themselves poorly dressed for the weather they inevitably encounter. Despite having readily available and effective insulation materials for over a century, we've failed to address the insufficient thermal coverings of our buildings, having opted instead to hook them up with all sorts of high-tech mechanical devices to manufacture artificially tempered living environments no matter the necessity. And no matter the energy costs.
