SWTC is having fun in the Spring
March 2009
A big wave hello to all of the people we met recently in California at Stitches West  ( they saw all of our fish hats from www.Knitty.com on display everywhere!) . We had a blast in CA.

I spent a few days with my family before the show. I tried to use my nephew , Evan, as a model. It was quite an interesting experience.

I finally got a good shot of the sweater and spent the rest of my time playing with this adorable little guy. To see Evan's modeling debut, check out SOMETHING's FISHY, the adorable toddler top designed by Melissa Mathay.  SWTC now has the Melissa Mathay patterns designed in Terra available from SWTC and SWTC Merchant stores here.

vest        If you haven't started a TERRA Big V Vest for yourself ... now is the time. This is a great project and this vest looks good on everyone (we proved it at Stitches West when everyone tried that vest on!)

We also recently added a few sizes to the pattern so its now ready thru size 2xl.

Join the Big V Vest KAL on ravelry hosted by a fabulous group from Memory Hagler Knitting in AL.

I met with Casey from the AZ Diamondbacks this morning and am very excited to hear that they have created a Craft Day at the ball park and SWTC has been tapped to get involved. Cathy Cano- Murillo, AZ's own Crafty Chica, is also on the team. I am so excited I can't sit still! This is just the start of a fabulous and fun summer.

sock winner 1     sock winner 2

We wrapped up the yearlong XRX Think Outside the Socks Contest  in February. It was so hard to pick only one out of so many amazing socks! In the end, we send our congratulations out to our 2 winners.

On the left,is the entry from Charles D.Gandy from Clayton, GA.  The sock was amazing and featured a green serpent wrapping around the leg of the sock. We'll get to meet Charles next month in Atlanta and personally present him with his check from XRX.

Yamuna Weiner knit a spectacular seascape for her winning sock. A close look shows mermaids, crabs, sea, and sand in a truly inspired design. It was clearly original and fascinating.

I love emails sharing fabulous new projects! Natalie wrote to share this:
" I always enjoy your newsletters. I thought you might be interested in a little pattern I just put on Knitty called Mirage . It's a one-skein scarf. I had used Oasis previously to knit a scarf for my mother & I wanted to have a scarf that draped to reproduce something I thought I had seen when I was shopping. Oasis seemed perfect.

Oasis drew me in as soon as it hit my local store (Yarn Forward in Kanata, ON) because of the colors - so many appealed to me. I had a skein of white left & used it to make my scarf."

FOR THE LOVE OF  LLAMAS

As many of you know, I have 6 llamas. Some were rescued from an abusive situation, others had to be given up by loving owners. These beautiful animals are being abandoned in record numbers as their owners lives change or homes are lost.

I am creating a fundraiser for the Arizona Llama Rescue Foundation and invite your help and support.  I am asking my favorite knitters and designers to donate a pattern that AZLR can sell on Ravelry with all of the proceeds going directly to the rescue of llamas and to the support of llamas  currently in their care. I had tears in my eyes when Cat Bordi and Candace Eisner Strick were among the first to enthusiastically offer patterns... and the collection is growing fast.

If you would like to donate a pattern , however small or complex, it would be greatly appreciated.

Look for the LOVE OF LLAMA pattern collection in Ravelry.

Please know this IS NOT an SWTC project. Donated patterns can be from or for ANY yarn and are most graciously appreciated.
