SenesTech severs ties with 600 Million Stray Dogs Need You |

On April 4, 2011, SenesTech notified ACC&D they have severed ties with 600 Million Stray Dogs Need You ("600 Million") and its founder, Alex Pacheco, and that "neither 600 Million nor Mr. Pacheco have any claim, right, title, license or interest in our ChemSpay™ product or any other [SenesTech] product." (Although the separation is official, content on the 600 Million website still seems to refer to this technology in fundraising appeals.)

Exciting changes in ACC&D's Board of Directors |
| New board members and new roles for existing board members |

ACC&D is delighted to welcome two experts in animal welfare and science to our board of directors. Betsy McFarland (photo right) is senior director for the Companion Animals section of The Humane Society of the United States. And Kevin Morris, PhD, is director of research for the Animal Assistance Foundation. ACC&D president Joyce Briggs writes, "Kevin and Betsy will contribute a great deal to our efforts and we are honored to have them 'on board'!"
ACC&D Board members Linda Rhodes, VMD, PhD and Bob Weedon, DVM, MPH have taken new professional positions. Dr. Rhodes is the CEO of a new animal health company called Aratana Therapeutics. And Dr. Weedon is now shelter veterinarian for the Champaign County Humane Society in Champaign, Illinois (U.S.). He will also continue to serve in his role as veterinary outreach coordinator for the Global Alliance for Rabies Control.

New grant for research on non-surgical sterilant |
| University of Virginia receives grant from Found Animals Foundation |

Researchers at the University of Virginia are the newest recipients of grant funding from Found Animals Foundations' Michelson Grants in Reproductive Biology.
One of the project leaders is Dr. John Herr (photo right) who spoke about targeted delivery of cytotoxins at ACC&D's 4th International Symposium last spring. Dr. Herr and his team will explore technology that "targets immature egg cells, called oocytes, before they mature into eggs that can be fertilized."

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has launched a public forum on dog population management. The FAO describes this as "an opportunity to exchange information, engage in professional discussions and request or provide advice on issues related to dog population management, dog health and welfare, and socio-economic assessments of the importance of dogs".
