Maintenance Kits - What Are They?
Has your printer ever displayed a message to perform maintenance? Most printers today operate with what are called "All-in-one" cartridges; the toner and drum are built into the replaceable cartridge. This allows the first half of the printing process, the "imaging" portion to occur, putting the toner on the paper to look like the image on your computer, in the fax, or on the copy. The second half of the process is "fusing", actually melting the toner powder into the paper, making it permanent.
Although the fuser in most printers is a long lasting component, most printers will sense the end of life, usually every 70,000 to 100,000 pages of output. Users will begin to see image degradation and lines on the page when the fuser is wearing out. The maintenance kit is simply a new fuser. Because other components wear out over this longer period, they are included with the fuser to comprise a maintenance kit. These other components often include rollers and pads which help in paper pickup out of the tray.
Maintenance kits are designed to be user installable, though many clients choose to have the kit installed by a certified technician. This can be a good idea as this is a fine time to have your printer cleaned and inspected to keep it in top shape. B2B offers this service at a slight extra charge as well as a full array of original and refurbished maintenance kits.
