February 10, 2012
Greetings!

Please note the following:

Quiz/Essay contest:

Students in grades 5 and 6 who live in Hammond, or who go to school in Hammond, and who have a valid HPL card may enter the "Making Our Voices Heard" African American History Quiz and Essay Contest. Click here for information on the contest.

First prize is a Kindle Fire; second prize is $100 cash; third prize is $75 cash. Contest ends Mon., Feb. 13 when the library closes for the evening.

Winners will be awarded at the "Making Our Voices Heard" program on Thursday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Tax forms are located on the second floor, near the Information Desk. While staff is not permitted to answer tax questions, they can either direct you to books that can help you with tax preparation, or provide information on tax preparation volunteers in Northwest Indiana.

DVD fee: To help defray our budget shortfall, starting on Feb. 13, the library will charge $1 for each DVD checked out. This fee is nonrefundable. At this time, the $1 fee does not include video games, VHS tapes, CDs or audiobooks.  Overdue fines for videos remain $1 a day.
