Hammond Public
Library
Greetings!

We just wanted to remind you that the Hammond Public Library will be closed Monday, February 20, for Presidents Day.

Here are a few more "heads up" items:

Tax forms are on the second floor, near Information Services.

DVD fee: To help defray our budget shortfall, starting Feb. 13 HPL will charge $1 for each DVD checked out. This fee is nonrefundable. At this time, the $1 fee does not include video games, VHS tapes, CDs or audiobooks. Overdue fines for videos remain $1 a day. (This notice corrects information sent Jan. 27)

Special hours: The library also will be closed Tues., March 6 for staff training.

The schedule has changed for free reading tutors for Kindergarten through Grade 12. Tutors are available at these new times: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 to 8:30 p.m.; and on Saturday from 12 noon to 4:30 p.m.

Quiz/Essay contest: HPL celebrates African American History Month with a program Thursday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m. "Making Our Voices Heard" features a performance by the Golden Tones. Also, we'll announce the winners of our African American Quiz and Essay Contest.

The Quiz and Essay Contest is open to students in grades 5 and 6 who either live in Hammond, or attend school in Hammond, and have a valid Hammond Library card without fines or fees.  The Contest is under way now. All work must be done while at the library's Youth Services department. Entries must be completed by the time the library closes for the day on Monday. February 13.  First prize is a Kindle Fire; second prize is $100; third prize is $75. Click here for information on the contest.

Finally, if you haven't been to the library, please come visit us!
We conduct a free library tour on Tuesday, February 21 at 2 p.m. Gather in the lobby outside the Community Room.

Sincerely,
