Greetings!
Do your kids need a little help with math or reading? HPL Youth Services offers Homework Help in READING AND MATH for grades K-12. Tutors are at HPL locations at the following times:
Mondays: 4 to 8 p.m. at the Howard Branch
Tuesdays: 4 to 8 p.m. at the E. B. Hayward Branch
Thursdays: 4 to 9 p.m. at Main Library- Youth Services
Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Main Library- Youth Services
Students do not need to make an appointment. They may just show up and bring their homework. The tutors are students from Calumet College of St. Joseph. CIVIL WAR PROGRAM:
Teens and adults, join us at the E. B. Hayward Branch on Thursday, March 31 at 2 p.m. for "Black Soldiers in Indiana: A Civil War Experience." Wendy St. Jean, Ph.D., assistant professor of history at Purdue University Calumet, presents this program as part of the initiative, "We the People: A More Perfect Union." Nearly 1,500 African Americans from Indiana participated in the Civil War. Hear their story in this free presentation. TAX FORMS: Tax forms are available at Main Library, west of the staircase on the first floor. Tax preparation volunteers are NOT available at HPL this year. Black Soldiers in Indiana: A Civil War Experience

Announcing the Hammond Public Library's We the People Essay Contest, from March 1 through April 30. All you have to do is read one of the We the People books and write a one-page essay on the theme of "A More Perfect Union." All teens are invited to enter and participants will be invited to a pizza party in May. And don't forget about the Library's blog!
