Greetings!
In February, HPL celebrates love, jazz, and Tyler Perry:
- On Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m., The Billy Foster Trio with vocalist, Renee Miles-Foster, visits Main Library to present "The History of Jazz." Mr. Foster teaches jazz piano at Valparaiso University, where he also performs with the faculty jazz ensemble. Mr. Foster also hosts a jazz program on 88.7 FM, WGVE in Gary.
- Tyler Perry Movie Showcase runs in February. Each Tuesday evening features a different film at a different location. See below for dates, times and films.
- Main Library features "Vintage Love Songs and Valentines" during February. Vintage love-related sheet music, as well as valentines from the 1920s and 1930s, are exhibited. Display cases are on the first floor near the east entrance, and on the second floor outside the Suzanne G. Long Local History Room.
- Thursday, March 31 at 2 p.m., as Wendy St. Jean, assistant professor of history at Purdue University Calumet, presents "Black Soldiers in Indiana: A Civil War Experience." This program takes place at our
E. B. Hayward Branch, and is geared for teens and adults as part of the programming for "We the People: A More Perfect Union."
