Greetings!
The Hammond Public Library thanks the Friends of the Library for their support. The Friends are our advocacy and fundraising arm. National Friends of Libraries Week is Oct. 17-23. Friends of HPL receive our print news- letter, Bookends, as well as two coupons good for free books from the Book Sale Room. Here are some other Friends happenings:
- The Friends and the Hammond Historical Society conduct a joint meeting on Sat., Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon.
- The Friends are selling the 2011 Book Lovers Calendar for $7. These make great gifts. Quantities are limited!
- The Friends are planning a Benefit Fair at Borders on Dec. 11 & 12. Friends members will offer gift wrapping on Dec. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HPL offers Wi-Fi: As of September 1, all locations have wireless access. You'll need a laptop computer or other mobile device equipped with a wireless network card that supports the WiFi 801.22g or 802.11b networking standards. You'll also need any software or drivers for your wireless network card. At each location you'll find more information about connecting to the HPL Wireless Network.

4th annual Books to Bridge the Region
This year's adult selection is Bowling Across America: 50 States in Rented Shoes by Mike Walsh. Mr. Walsh speaks at two free presentations that are open to the public:

To celebrate "Bowling Across America," local bandleader and bowling historian, Steve Cooper, presents a free video program, "Bowling Memories" at six Region libraries. He'll be at Main Library, 564 State St., on Thursday, October 21 at 7 p.m. Come see footage of bowling's heyday, including trick shots, 300 games as they were played on live TV, and much more!
