Summer Reading ends July 31. The Library has programs for newborns through adults. Sign up at any HPL location. For those registered at Main Library, reading logs must be turned in by Sat., July 31 at 4 p.m. For those registered at branches, logs must be turned in by Fri., July 30 at 4 p.m.

A Beach Concert on Thurs., July 1 features Parents Choice Award-winning musician and songwriter, Leonardo. Performances are:
  • 1:30 p.m. at the E. B. Hayward Branch;
  • 3:30 at the Howard Branch,
  • and 7 p.m. at Main Library.
Everyone is welcome to this family-friendly show. You need not have registered for the Summer Reading Program.

Summer Reading for all ages runs through July 31.

"Make a Splash" is the youth theme. Two programs are conducted:
Listeners - for children who are read to
Readers - for those who read on their own"
Weekly programs take place, and each location hosts a Pirate Party on Fri., July 30.

NEA "Green Across America" Grants
Deadline: July 30, 2010

The National Education Association offers Green Across America grants of up to $1,000 each to help K-12 teachers implement their innovative education program, activity, lesson, or event to increase environmental awareness, create positive learning programs, and excite students about ways to create a better planet. The program will award a total of $50,000, in grants of up to $1,000 each (dependent on the cost of developing the activity, lesson, or event). Information on the grantees' programs will be posted on the NEA Member Benefits Web Site for use by the education community. The program is open to any educator employed by a public or private school (K-12) located in the fifty United States and the District of Columbia.

Grant award program applications are available at the NEA Member Benefits Web site.
