Dear , MEET OUR NEW DIRECTOR:
The Hammond Public Library Board of Trustees has appointed René L.
Greenleaf to replace library director, Margaret Evans, who retired Feb.
1.
Greenleaf has been assistant director of the Hammond Public Library since
1998. She holds a bachelor's degree in
communi-cation and electronic media from Western Illinois University, as well as
a master's degree in library and informational sciences from Dominican
University, formerly Rosary College.
Greenleaf is a member of the American Library Association; Black Caucus
of the American Library Association; Indiana Library Federation; and Indiana
Black Librarians Network.
As assistant director of HPL, she has been
involved in community endeavors including Purdue University Calumet's Educational
Talent Search, Hammond Neighborhood Crime Watch at the State Street Baptist
Church, and the Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce. ________________________________
HPL now offers World Book Web via library computers, OR via home, school or office by entering your HPL card number. World Book Web contains:- World Book Online for Kids: Colorful tabs lets children find games, activities, science projects, maps, biographies and a dictionary, as well as special subject categories.
- World Book Online Info Finder: A search box lets you search by subject, or alphabetically. You can also connect to the websites of newspapers worldwide. A Biography Center, Science Projects and a variety of research tools help teens and adults.
- World Book Reference Center: Interactive Earth, Timelines, computer and web tutorials, reference and citation
____________________________________Holiday hours: All Hammond Library locations are closed Mon., Feb. 15 (President's Day)____________________________________A story time for day care centers is held one Monday a month at 10:30 a.m. at Main Library. Remaining dates for 2010 are:

NEH Summer Seminars and Institutes Deadline: March 2, 2010
The National Endowment for the Humanities is offering a funding opportunity called Summer Seminars and
Institutes. This is open to any U.S. nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3)
tax-exempt status; state and local governmental agencies; and tribal
governments.
The Summer Seminars and Institutes grants support faculty development
programs in the humanities for school teachers and for college and university
teachers. The Summer Seminars and Institutes may be as short as two weeks or as
long as six weeks. The duration of a program should allow for a rigorous
treatment of its topic.
The deadline to apply for the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer
