MEET OUR NEW DIRECTOR:
The Hammond Public Library Board of Trustees has appointed René L. Greenleaf to replace library director, Margaret Evans, who retires Feb. 1. 

Greenleaf has been assistant director of the Hammond Public Library since 1998. She holds abachelor's degree in communication and electronic media from Western Illinois University, as well as a master's degree in library and informational sciences from Dominican University, formerly Rosary College.

Greenleaf is a member of the American Library Association; Black Caucus of the American Library Association; Indiana Library Federation; and Indiana Black Librarians Network.

As assistant director of HPL, she has been involved in community endeavors including Purdue University Calumet's Educational Talent Search, Hammond Neighborhood Crime Watch at the State Street Baptist Church, and the Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce.
