The King of Christmas

Greetings!

Being that this is the last devotion prior to Christmas, I wish you a blessed and joyous Christmas!

This holiday season has caught me in a nostalgic mood. It probably has much to do with my age and life stage. Kim and I have two adult children. One is away at school most of the year while our youngest is still at home. Long gone are the days of excited gift-giving, Santa pictures, surprises and wonder. Now, we wake the kids up for Christmas!

Christmas is a time to reflect on life and living. We reflect on the life we have had and the living we are doing and are yet to do. Christmas is perfect for nostalgia and walks down memory lane. Christmas is all about a memory and a moment. Christmas is about the Christ of Christmas and the memory that He came upon a midnight clear and changed the fate of the universe in a moment.

It is crazy how fast life goes by. I remember our first Christmas as a family and now we are celebrating our 22nd. Wow! I know you are experiencing the same warp-speed pace yet I also know Christmas is a great time to stop and enjoy the moment that creates the memories.

This week, soak in each moment. Take time with family and friends to share, to speak, to listen, to laugh, to cry and to live! Most importantly, take time with your spiritual being. This week, slow down and take time to worship the baby that changed the world with his birth. Slow down and take time to experience the Christ of Christmas...Jesus, the babe born the King of Glory!

The Psalm of our Babe that was born a King!

1 The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. 3 Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. 5 They will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God their Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.7 Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is he, this King of glory? The LORD Almighty - he is the King of glory.

Psalm 24

Who is the King? His name is Jesus and He came as the Gift of Christmas!

Psalm 24 is a song for a King. It is a song for King Jesus; also known as the King of Heaven and the King of Glory. It is interesting that this week we will celebrate the birth of a King, a Savior and God. It is mind-boggling just what God has done through the mission and life of Jesus. I mean, who sends a baby to save the human race from the fires of hell? As it turns out, God does. He sent Himself disguised as a baby and then a man that died a thief's death. What a story!

Christmas is a time to make memories. This tradition has been passed down since the birth of Jesus. Think of it ... How could the shepherds ever forget that night? How about Mary, Joseph, the wise men, or King Herod? Likewise, how can we forget the birth of our Savior-King that first gave up Heaven's crown and then His life for our ransom? I am mesmerized by the love and compassion of God that created the moment that established the memory of Christmas.

Friend, don't allow Christmas to pass you by. Please apprehend the depth of God's love that comes out in the Christmas story. When you look at that manger setting, you are looking at a captured memory that was created in a divine moment. The divine moment is the perfection of time whereby Jesus left the accolades and worship of Heaven to enter a sin-stained world and save our souls. He is truly an awesome God and the "giver" of life. He is the King of Glory and the true gift of Christmas.

May your Christmas be blessed. May you know fully the love, grace, mercy and peace of God. May you apprehend the depth of Jesus' love and find hope in His embrace.

Merry Christmas!
