Life is Too Short for Unclaimed Love
November 16, 2010
Greetings!

Today's devotion continues the series "Life is Too Short..." In past devotions we have examined the brevity of life and the need for focus in our walk with God. Today we will be discussing "Unclaimed Love" or the concept of the unfathomable love of God!

This past week I had the chance to carve out some alone time. I walked, worked in the yard, and read a bit. The glaring message I received in this "down time" was the amazing love that God has for us. I quickly began texting my family a simple yet profound message ... "God loves us so much!" It really is an incredible revelation if you dare receive it ... God loves us ... God loves you!

Life is too short to leave my last sentence hanging! Life is too short for unclaimed love. The love I speak of is the love of God for His creation, His created ... His children. The love I speak of is His love for you, me and every person that has ever lived or will ever live! God loves us and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it! What an awesome thought ... He loves us!

My mind has trouble comprehending the love of God. My brokenness receives it freely. My mind wants to play games and state other facts or bring love into question. My soul cries out for the love of God. God answers, "Yes, Oh! How I love you ... it's incredible!"

As followers of Jesus, we need to be joyful recipients of the love of God. Leave no day unmarked with His loving touch or gaze. Leave no day with His love unclaimed. Relish it! Bask in it! Live in it and your love will become His love ... unpolluted and pure!

Life is Too Short Not to Know the Fullness of the Love of God!

15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.  God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.

~ 1 John 4:15-17 ~

Claim the love God has for you and love others deeply

Life is too short for unclaimed love. Life is too short to go through the motions and not really engage God's unfathomable love and then share that love with others! I can guarantee you God is doing all He can to share and show His love to you and to the world. The problem isn't on God's end but ours. We leave unclaimed love on the table and then ask for love from other sources. Friend, that is a dry well. Only God's love can satisfy the thirst of your soul.

The holiday season is a wonderful time to experience and share God's love. Next week, you will go to loved ones homes or have them visit yours. Take the opportunity to love and love deeply. Remember, it isn't your job to fix everyone but it is your job to love everyone. (John 13:34-35)

The love of God is changing my life. Kim and I have always known about God but we really came to love Him and receive His love about 16 years ago. Since that time, we have been serving God in the local church and in missions both here and abroad. Still, the revelation of God's love has only deepened. In fact, it is stronger now but there is much "religious" junk that attempts to regulate His love and compassion. Now, we have to wade through the business and busyness of the day as we serve and stay focused on the love of God.

No matter what you face, where you work or who you serve, you can't regulate God's love. You cannot contain God's love. You cannot create a structure that defeats God's love. If there is any fact I can never disprove or deny it is this ... God loves us so much! It's crazy when you think about it! He, the God of all, loves us and attempts to communicate that at every turn. We need to slow down and listen.

I leave you with this thought from Jude. It is a deep thought that captures our role as we await eternal glory with the lover of our soul. It communicates our need to live in, and through, God's unfathomable love.

"20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life."

~ Jude 1:20-22 ~

Friend, don't leave the love of God like unclaimed baggage. Life is too short for unclaimed love. Instead, receive His love moment by moment and allow His love to keep you, guide you, and bring you peace. He loves us and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it! He is crazy about you! Walk in His love!
