Greetings!
In James 1:27 from God's Word, James shares that "true religion is to minister to orphans and widows in their time of need". Covenant is a local non-profit designed to provide opportunities for people to get involved in ministry to orphans. One of the many opportunities to serve abused and neglected children is through foster parenting. Covenant has a foster care program that enlists, trains and certifies families and individuals to become foster parents. It is our prayer that you consider becoming a foster parent or enlist others in your sphere of influence to help children that are not living with their families. Although foster care is a great ministry option it is not the only option. Covenant has a multitude of services and supports that engage faith in action to bless a child or family. Go to www.covenantcs.net to find out more. Also, please look into our social enterprises at www.covenantmedianow.com and www.covenantcoffee.org. Your support in these endeavors employs former foster children and helps provide for other ministry activities and events. Thanks for being a partner and friend! If you missed our blogs about the Africa trip go to the website and view them today! We will be uploading pictures in the near future. For King and Kingdom, Randy Martin |

Fostering Hope at Valley Baptist Church
Covenant is privileged and honored to speak at Valley Baptist's Mosaic Family Ministry Event on September 30th! Valley Baptist Church is a great church doing the work of the Kingdom in Bakersfield, California. Mosaic will be hosting a FREE information and recruitment event with special guests speaker Randy Martin of Covenant Community Services! Covenant is a licensed Foster Family Agency (FFA) and will be presenting on the current foster care situation in Kern County. Covenant will also highlight the importance of community involvement and will provide information on foster parenting, mentoring, as well as other opportunities. For foster care to be transformed in Kern County people need to get inlvolved today. The mission of Covenant to "provide hope and love to abused and neglected children" is similar to the mission of Mosaic Family Ministry of Valley Baptist. Mosaic Family Ministry exists to care for and encourage families in foster care and to enlist individuals and families to minister to foster children and those already serving, with the love of Jesus Christ.
We invite you to come and learn about the foster care system in Kern County, learn about the children and to find out how you can be a part of changing a child's future. The event will be held Thursday, September 30th at 6pm in the Children's Fellowship Hall at Valley Baptist. Valley Baptist is located at 4800 Fruitvale Ave. in Bakersfield, CA 93308. For more information contact Sibyl Strickland at 661-387-6363 to or by email sstrickland@valleybaptist.org to RSVP. You can also call the Covenant office for more information at 661-326-8304.

Covenant Horse Program Builds on Success
During the first session with Amanda and Shavocia I noticed that both young women had one desire that somewhat surprised me. Instead of wishing to ride their equine partner as soon as possible both desired the horse to follow them in the arena without a halter. Amazingly both Sassy and Buddy chose to follow their newfound human friends - I was so proud of them! Over the last few weeks I've been pondering on Amanda and Shavocia's desire. Above all else, they wanted to be liked and accepted by their horse. I believe former foster youth struggle with feeling accepted and being liked. What a loyal friend they were able to find in their CHP horse and what a loyal friend Jesus wants to be to them! During the debriefing part of the program the CHP team has been able to develop great connections to building a relationship with Jesus - similar to their relationship with the horse. It comes down to choices, the trust that builds and working through fear. Praise Reports! - A great relationship has been built with Shavocia - Amanda and Buddy will complete their block of four sessions this month.
- The CHP team connected with Amanda, shared life with her and has been able to impart Jesus - Lilly, one of the new Covenant Horses, is making fast progress - she's amazing - Cara Dykes has been faithfully volunteering for CHP since March - thank you Cara for your continued faithfulness!!! Prayer Requests/Needs - Funding!!!!- New sessions beginning this month with former foster youth- Male CHP volunteers- Safety for volunteers and participants
- Equipment (helmets, saddle, flyspray, MP3 player...). We are currently using a skateboard helmet for CHP. - We are in desperate need of a training saddle for Lilly and Buddy.
Your prayer and support for CHP is much appreciated!

God's Word and the Fatherless
27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27
5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. 6 God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land. Psalm 68:5-6
