Understanding God's Sovereign CareJuly 27, 2010
Greetings!

Things don't always work out for people. Times can be tough. We experience loss, pain, hurt, setback and tragedy. Still, God is in control. In our work with former foster youth it is always critical to share the hope that God alone provides. This is why our message is clear ... Hope Lives Here!

I was raised in a great family and continue to have wonderful relationships with all my siblings and parents. I realize many people were not as fortuntate. Nonetheless, the message does not change as a person in a great family yet without God is just as hopeless as someone raised in foster care. The bottom line for each person is the same. There is no hope.

As Kim and I turn from raising children to raising adults it has been interesting to watch the development of our character and the character of our children. During most of our time as a family the interaction was teaching, modeling and explaining. Now, it is coaching and facilitating. As the kids grow, we are allowing growth outsiude of our parameters. We are taking off the reins and giving them to God. It is a fun ride but not without challenges.

The best thing any of us God-followers can do for another human is to point them to Jesus. When people fall in love with Jesus the dependency issues on the human level are curtailed and become interdependent. Dependency is now focused on God as our Maker, Creator and Lord. This truth is applicable to all and especially pertinent to foster youth and former foster youth.

You are Never Alone

10 When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the LORD will take care of me.
~ Psalm 27:10 ~

Oh, Our Sovereign King! To You Our Praise We Bring!

Psalm 27:10 tells me God is sovereign. The word sovereign means "One that exercises supreme, permanent authority". When the absolute worst thing could happen to a child - losing your parents or being forsaken by your parents - it is comforting to realize God is sovereign and has all things under control.

In many ways, we are all "fatherless' in this wicked world. Due to sin and the fall of man, we live in a fallen world ruled by the enemy of our soul (1 John 5:19, 2Corinthians 4:3-4). This place we call home is really nothing more than a layover on the way to our real and permanent home which is either Heaven or Hell. It is during this life on earth we must realize God is there to aide, assist and support. We are not forsaken (Hebrews 13:5).

For the real fatherless children in our world, Psalm 27:10 has a greater meaning that must be grasped for health and wellness of body, mind and spirit. Youth today face immense battles and foster youth often fall prey to the predators of our time. Their dreams can be smashed, hopes shattered and lives destroyed. The answer to life's dilemma is not a social service but God Himself. God is sovereign and He is in control and will never leave or forsake any child. This is truth and truth that must be shared in a manner to overshadow the message of despair, doubt and defeat.

Today, remember the truth of Scripture and allow God to be your strong tower and refuge (Proverbs 18:10). God will never abandon you. He will never leave you as prey to the enemy of your soul. Also, remember that you carry this message of hope and healing. You are God's instrument of peace just as He is peace to your weary soul.
