God's mercy triumphs over judgment
Micah reminds us in Micah 7:18-19 that God is the victor over sin. God tramples sin under His feet and then tosses our sins into the sea. He does this because He loves us and desires to defeat the enemy of our soul and restore relationship no matter what sin says!
God knows your heart and He knows your sin choices and condition. Our sin condition is the entire reason He sent Jesus to save us from sin. The amazing thing is that no matter what sin the "accuser of the brethren" (Revelation 12:10) brings before God's throne of Judgment, the great "Intercessor" (Hebrews 7:25) is ready to proclaim our sin-free status and our life in Him. In "Sin versus God" ... God wins!
As I read through the list of sins in the book "Prayers", I had to chuckle at the plan of the enemy. The enemy of my soul would have loved for me to pour over the list and count my sins, feel guilt and shame, and walk away defeated. His desire was for sin to win. On the other hand, God wanted me to know that no matter how many sins I can count my sins are forgiven!
Friend, it is your choice to focus on each and every sin and see where and how you measure up or you can choose to place your faith in Jesus Christ and thank Him for forgiveness of sins. I choose to follow God and find peace in the fact that He wrote that He forgives and forgets! He is not a man that holds a grudge. No, He took sin upon His shoulders and then hurled them into the sea! What a great God! Who is like Him? There is none!
When the enemy attempts to rob your peace and kill your joy, remind Him that God wins. Sin has been defeated. The devil can drag sin's disgusting, messy and nasty list in front of us but God simple covers it with the blood of Jesus Christ. In Him, we are free. In Him, we are beautiful. In Him, there is no condemnation (Romans 8:1).
The balance to this devotion is that we are to strive for holiness. True, Jesus has defeated sin and has cast our sin into the sea but it is not an excuse to sin all the more. No, we are to strive for holiness and to follow Christ in conduct, speech and thought. John 8, provides an example of the balance.
In John 8, we have the record of the woman caught in adultery. The religious people of the day brought her before Jesus to stone her to death. Jesus forgave her of her sin and then stated to her, "leave your life of sin". Friend, may you walk in the mercy of His forgiveness and His grace for a transformed life.
