Give Thanks in All Things

Greetings!

As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends I want to say that I am thankful for you. I am thankful for your prayers, your partnership in ministry and to share life with you.

This past week, I shared time with some friends that are facing difficult times. One has a family member who is very ill and the other is in difficult financial times. Nonetheless, each of them were thankful. These encounters lead me to ponder ... it is easy to be thankful when everything is going great but something altogether different when times are rough.

Thanksgiving is a matter of attitude and outlook. Even if I am facing a horrific and painful death I can be thankful to God for ultimate healing and eternal life. If I am facing temporary illness or discomfort I can thank God for all He has done in and through my life. The truth is ... there is always something to be thankful for ... we just need to fly above this life and get a thankful perspective.

The lesson to be learned is that we always have something to thank God for no matter what our trial or situation.

Thanksgiving Under Fire

30 I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.  31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hoofs.

~ Psalm 69: 30-31 ~

Attitude determines Altitude

Thanksgiving is a great character trait. To have a thankful heart one must have a great attitude. In Psalm 69, David is crying out to God for the majority of the Psalm. In fact, he is outright complaining and whining. Suddenly, he remembers the fact that "attitude determines altitude" and his words change as does his Spirit.

David knew truth. David knew that thanksgiving trumped sacrifice and religious activity. David wanted revenge, deliverance, freedom and a better life but knew that thanksgiving was the vehicle to get him there. He stopped whining and started winning and he did it with thanksgiving.

This week, reflect on God's goodness in your life. Think hard and be thankful. It will help if you make a list. I have done this and my hand actually tires. Once you get in the flow, you will recognize that you have so many reasons to be thankful. Also, when you operate in thanksgiving you are pleasing God's heart. Take the time to make this Thanksgiving matter and open your heart to God. Remember, your altitude in life will rise as your attitude about life rises.

May you have a blessed and peaceful Thanksgiving!
