Why we do what we do ...
Understanding our call to worship Jesus September 22, 2009
Greetings!

As a follower of Jesus you don't get points for showing up. There is no one watching to punch your card when you enter church, attend a meeting or sit in an event. Sure, there may be people watching and commenting on your attendance but God isn't impressed with your "making an appearance".

This last Sunday I was both reminded and convicted in church. I was in worship and my thoughts began to drift. They drifted toward our miserable football performance on Friday and the lack of execution. It was as if the young men just thought they could win by "showing up and wearing a uniform". That's when it hit me. We can't do "church" and expect any difference in our spiritual performance or growth. We don't win at life by just showing up.

As the choir began to sing their next song, "Great is thy faithfulness", I began to sink into worship. I repented for my lack of focus and for failing to grasp the reason why I do what I do ... why I attend church! I attend church to worship my King and learn of His Kingdom. As the choir sang, "Great is thy faithfulness, all that I needed thy hand has provided, Great is thy faithfulness Lord unto me", I once again humbled my heart and admitted - it's not about me - it's about him!

I am so thankful for a merciful and honest God that convicts and challenges for my betterment and growth. God is faithful. Yes, we must show up but we need to show up and perform, get involved, be a part, execute, and remember why we do what we do ... worship!

God's Faithfulness

5 The heavens praise your wonders, O LORD,  your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.   6 For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD ?  Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings?  7 In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared;  he is more awesome than all who surround him.  8 O LORD God Almighty, who is like you?  You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you.  9 You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.

~ Psalm 89:5-9 ~

Stay Fresh and Execute your Walk of Faith

Why do we do what we do? Why do you do what you do? I hope your answer is passion. I hope you go to church, or any Christian event (prayer, meetings, bible study, small group, etc.), because you have passion ... passion to learn, to grow and be the best you can be!

I need to know what I do and why I do what I do. You need to know what you do and why you do what you do. My prayer is that we do whatever we do because we love the One who loved us first. This isn't a competition or a game ... it is life. We need to be people ready for all phases and issues life throws our way and we do this by showing up and participating. We execute.

I don't care if you are an artist, a player, a coach, a pastor, a singer, a mom or a spouse. You need to execute in what the Lord has called you to do and perform with passion. Truth is, I need you. I need you at your best because you matter to my life. Likewise, I strive to be my best for you. Let's stop showing up and start getting busy on this walk of faith. It's time for the people of God to rise above mediocrity to excellence!

May you live this week with passion in all you do. May you know that in whatever you do, you do it unto the Lord and not for man (Colossians 3:23). This week, every day ... execute with passion. Let's grow together for life and respond to our faithful God that is ready, and willing, to take us to the next step in fulfillment of the good work He started! (Philippians 1:6) God's ready to pour out from the storehouses of Heaven ... let's be ready on our end!
For King and Kingdom,
