What makes someone wise?
Seeking God with passion
Greetings!

I know a lot of stuff. You know a lot of stuff.  The Internet, technology, media, and community have developed rapidly in the past years to increase our knowledge and understanding. On the other hand, the crazy part is that we probably know too much and act or execute too little.

Life is enjoyed and successful not in the knowing but in the application. I can know about love and understand love but if I never love then what have I accomplished. We need to act and apply what we learn through experience. Wisdom is the art of living and the application of knowledge and understanding.

This past week I had many encounters with wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Unfortunately, wisdom didn't always win. Friday night was the beginning of the high school football season. Since I work with specialists I have an opportunity to teach very specific skills that help the team and develop young players. It is both exciting and frustrating. Coaches can teach, train and evaluate but it all comes down to athletes executing. The same is true on the field of life. Wisdom is the execution of knowledge and understanding.

The "wise men" of the Bible did not simply have a vision of a star and the newborn King but they executed and applied their understanding and knowledge to seek Him. In Matthew 2:2 we hear their passion,  "We are on a pilgrimage to worship Him". Wise men seek Jesus. They did before His birth and they still do today. Don't be a follower of God that knows and understands but execute on your faith! That is wisdom and the art of living well.

The Way to Wisdom

"My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and your heart to understanding; yes if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those that walk uprightly; He guards the path of justice, and preserves the way of the saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path."

Looking for Wisdom's Lessons

Life has signs, signals and symbols that all point us to Jesus. Unfortunately, we are often so busy or distracted to seek the meaning behind what we experience. As a result, we miss the life-lesson and the wisdom it produces.

As followers of King Jesus, we need to be diligent about seeking wisdom from each moment of life. God is always speaking, always teaching and always coaching. He is ministering to us to "complete the good work He started" (Philippians 1:3-11).

Life is a treasure. It is a treasure easily found for those diligently seeking. You can go through today and look for all the problems, pitfalls, and negative situations and you will find them. Or, you can choose to go through today looking for the opportunities God has for you to grow, enjoy life and obtain wisdom. It all starts with your thought and faith process.

May we be the people that "receive" the words of God, that "treasure" His commands, and that "incline" our ear to wisdom. Wisdom awaits each of us daily. We must but make the hard choice to look, to listen and then to act on what we learn. It is easy to be negative but to be wise is a tough choice but the rewards are incomparable.

To your Wisdom!
For King and Kingdom,
