Greetings!
Kim and I received some unexpected news Monday morning. Our son, Zach, will leave for college this week. This was unexpected as the "plan" was for Zach to attend Bakersfield Junior College and play football. The "plan" changed and now our firstborn son is off to college in Modesto, California!
To be honest, I am in shock. Kim is in shock. Suddenly, life has hit the Martin's and our baby is headed off to life with no promise of return. I mean people go to college and come back married! This is big stuff for us. Now I know you "old-timers" and veterans have been down this road so please keep us in prayer!
As I ponder the thought of Zach living on his own and learning and developing as a man, I can't help but reflect on God's mercy, grace and love! Zach is in God's hands and he always has been. Now, I simply understand it better as I feel the "release" from my hand as the grip of day-to-day living is replaced by the visit, text or call.
Seasons have changed. Times have changed. We are entering a new season, a new year, and thus new hope and opportunity. It is time to trust what has been planted. It is now the season for the fruit to develop and the tender of the garden to trust the Master's hand!

1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
~ Psalm 1:1- 3 ~ |

It's Zach Season!
When Zach was little we used to play the "duck season, rabbit season" game that Bugs Bunny played with Daffy Duck. Bugs Bunny would say "duck season" while Daffy said,"rabbit season" and they continued until one switched in hopes of tricking each other. Bugs would say, "rabbit season" and Daffy would fall for it and say "duck season" and Bugs would say, "OK" and then the hunter, Elmer Fudd, shot Daffy! Well, now it's Zach season.
It is the season for Zach to transition to independence and to bear fruit as a follower of Jesus Christ. It is time to "bring forth fruit in season". Our job is to trust, to water, to nourish and to love. His job is to be like the man in Psalm 1 that stays close to the Lord and whatever he does prospers.
As Kim and I face this new chapter of life, it is also time for us to bear fruit in season. Life is a life of cycles and seasons and the "blessed" are those that roll with the seasons under God's grace and care. It is not a time to shrink or shrivel but to press in and on. We must bear fruit by changing our role from "tenders" to "senders". It is Zach season and we have the privilege of launching him to life.
Friend, whatever season you are facing remember that God is the God of the seasons of life and He has it all under control. Some of you are assisting elderly parents, others are ushering in newborns, some are going to school while others are sending their first child to school. We are all in different seasons but know this: God is the God of every season and He will never leave the one that never leaves Him! Press into the Lord in all seasons and whatever you do will propser under God's hand.
