Oh Happy Day!
Rejoicing in God's Goodness... May 25, 2009
Greetings!

I just finished a wonderful Memorial Day weekend with family and friends. I hope yours was blessed as well. Memorial Day is a great day to ponder what God has done in our lives and through our lives. If we think that we have earned anything we should think again. It is the goodness and love of God that makes my soul declare, "Oh Happy Day!"

We need weekends to help us slow down and be refreshed. Life is crazy. Life is hard. But, God is gracious and God is good. Weekends help us "get away" from the norm and provide time to "be". During these times, we need to remind ourselves of who we are and what has happened to get us to this point. If you have had any success, any joy, any peace, and any love ... it is from God.

Our source of all things is the Source of Life ... the Maker of Heaven and Earth, our Father, our Friend, our Savior, our Lord, and our Coach. God is who we should remember and thank as we reflect on the past and memorialize those that have sacrificed for our benefit. So, here is a "shout out" to all those who serve and have served! Thank you for your sacrifice and service.

Our Source for Rejoicing

14 The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.  15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation Is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the LORD does valiantly 16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted; The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.17 I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the LORD. 18 The LORD has chastened me severely,  But He has not given me over to death. 19 Open to me the gates of righteousness;  I will go through them,  And I will praise the LORD. 20 This is the gate of the LORD,  Through which the righteous shall enter.  21 I will praise You,  For You have answered me,  And have become my salvation.  22 The stone which the builders rejected.  Has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This was the LORD's doing;  It is marvelous in our eyes.  24 This is the day the LORD has made;  We will rejoice and be glad in it.

~ Psalm 118:14-24 ~

The reason we can rejoice!

I love the last two verses of our reading today,  "This was the LORD's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it."  What a powerful statement! The gospel of peace is God's doing. He designed the greatest rescue mission ever to save your soul and this is the ultimate reason for our happy day.

As people of faith, every day should be a memorial day. A day where we take the time to reflect upon what God has done for us. This includes the brave acts of men and women that protect us daily and have throughout history. This also includes the most courageous and bold mission ever attempted ... the cross of Jesus Christ.

Throughout my life as a follower of Jesus I have often heard people state, "This is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it". What a great message. What a great statement of faith. Today, and every day, is God's day and God's design. So, be encouraged. He will see you through the tough times and bless you with seasons of victory and grace.

Oh Happy Day! The day I came to know His goodness and grace. I challenge you, my friend, to make this your life message today ... This is the day the Lord has made and I WILL rejoice and be glad IN it! Take your stance in the face of the enemy and declare the praise and goodness of your King!
For King and Kingdom,
