Be Careful ... It's a long fall
Humilty in victory protects us... March 9, 2009
Greetings!

This past Sunday I shared a message at Canyon Hills Assembly of God about the need for men to lead the church. It was a confrontational message that called men into account for the state of our culture. I believe it was a Biblical message and a threat to the enemy. It is a threat because men were called out of the shadows and into the fight of faith. Men need to "ditch" the ancestral act of Adam and rise to fight for their modern "Eve". Men need to take their rightful place and lead the family in establishing an authentic and joy-filled relationship with Jesus Christ. This is God's method for populating Heaven and emptying hell!

As you can imagine, the enemy of our soul and the proprietor of hell wasn't very happy with the message. In fact, he came at me from all sides Sunday afternoon. I am thankful that God has provided the awareness of the enemy's plan and a way of escape as I know we are often weakest in the shadow of a victory.

I believe God won a victory Sunday as the Bible was preached and men were challenged to walk in the spiritual authority provided by the Lord. I believe God obtained the victory as the enemy's plan to defeat and discourage men was revealed and the call was given for men to revolt against his tyranny. I also know the enemy will never take a loss lightly and will always have a counterattack. Thus, we should expect it and seek God's wisdom and strength for the battle is the Lord's!

I spent many years playing soccer eventually in the NCAA. I remember a wise coach telling our team in practice, "If you score, defend relentlessly because you will be weak for five minutes due to your goal. If you are scored against, attack ferociously for your opponent is weakest after they have scored". That was accurate advice and has a direct Biblical analogy. Followers of Jesus are vulnerable after God has won a victory due to our pride and comfort. Thus, the warning - be careful of where you stand because it is a long fall.

Be prepared for the counterattack of the enemy

12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

~ 1 Corinthians 12-13 ~

Be Ready for a Fight!

Whenever a victory is won in faith we must be prepared to defend the ground God has taken. The enemy will not sit idle and allow us to enjoy the victory. It may seem like that is the case but he is plotting and planning a counter attack. When is a good time to wage that attack? When you are celebrating the victory incorrectly and "thinking" it is you that has won it!

We are most vulnerable to a counter attack when we operate in pride. We must take heed where we stand unless we fall for God alone is worthy of glory even if we happen to be a part of God's victory. On Sunday afternoon, I quickly had to realize that if the "battle is the Lord's" before the service then the victory is the Lord's after the service. Oh, but what a tricky and coniving enemy we have. He will use flattery, temptation, flesh desires and fatigue as the initial blow of the counter attack and then attempt to overtake us with more enticing offers.

I am thankful that God knows our hearts. He is a faithful God that understands our nature and ability to wander. He is a gracious Father that will avenge His children and step in and destory the enemy if we only let Him. What a great God we serve! What a Savior! What a Friend! God will never leave you alone after victory but understands you and will always provide a way of escape and a hand to hold onto when the fight is fierce!

This week, enjoy the victories God has won in your life. Cherish them. Recount them and then be prepared for a counter attack. Wage your part in God's war in humility and watch the enemy flee once again from the Presence of the Lord as you ascend into communion with God! He is a refuge and a strong tower ... run to Him and live!
