Developing a God Conscious

Greetings!

This past week, my nineteen year old son Zach had a bad wreck on his mountain bike. It was a nasty fall that left both rims ruined and one broken in two! I am thankful to God that Zach only suffered minor scrapes, cuts and bruises.

Now that I am over forty, I attribute His experience of grace to God's goodness and Zach's youth. If I had wrecked like that you probably wouldn't be reading this:)

When I picked Zach up in the foothills he was visibly shaken and very upset. "Why did this have to happen!", he shouted. I attempted to encourage him by stating that it could have been much worse and that I was thankful God was watching over him and protecting him. Zach's response was typical Zach, "If God was watching and protecting then how come I wrecked into a railroad tie someone laid on the trail where it can't be seen?" ... Good question.

In Zach's mind, much like mine or yours, he wanted to have a great ride and not get hurt "at all". Zach believes in a God that can prevent this kind of stuff from happening and so do I. But, that is not what happened and that is usually not how life works. No, some bozo thought it would be funny to put a railroad tie on the trail and cause a wreck. Life can be like that can't it?

Life is full of wrecks, scrapes, bangs, knocks, bruises and pain. God can prevent it all but He doesn't. Instead, He promises only to allow us to go through things we can handle or bear and that these short-term problems always end up growing our faith ... if we have the right outlook!

The God Conscious ... Watching for the Lord!

35 "Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; 36 and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately. 37 Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them. 38 And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

Developing your God Conscious

The parable Jesus taught in Luke 12 is not only about awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus but it is about watching for God today! We have a great privilege, thanks to Emmanuel ... God with us, to enjoy God now! This is the benefit of a living and active Lord. He truly is God with us! Thus, we must be watchful for His activity in our life.

Proverbs 3:5-7 is a favorite passage of Scripture for me. It has such a refreshing message that is applicable for the scrapes, bruises and wrecks of life ... "acknowledge Him in ALL your ways and He will direct your path". Wow! If I simply look for and acknowledge the work of God in my life He will direct me and lead me!

To acknowledge God, or as Jesus puts it in Luke 12 "watch for the Master",  is simply to develop a God conscious. This is looking for God and being aware of His move, His hand, His care, and His love in all things. No matter what you come across or face, if you look, you can find God! This is the real beauty of the gospel. This is the truth behind "I'll never leave you or forsake you"!

This week, look for God in your own wrecks, bumps, bruises and on the good rides! He is there. It may take some convincing and you may have to think it through but God is looking out for you and your best. He wants to spend eternity with you and He is nuts about you. Look for Him this week in all you do. Be watchful, waiting, and eager to spend time with Him. May your God conscious develop and your walk enriched as you look for him in all of life.
