Learning From Our Day ...
Growing with God through the Holy Spirit October 14, 2008
Greetings!

This past week we lost a football game we should have won. It crushed me to watch the game film and analyze mistakes and how we were beaten. What I, and the other coaches, found was that we "beat" ourselves! We simply didn't perform as we have trained. We were sloppy and it cost us the game.

In Jesus Christ, our life is victorious. He has paved the way for victory. He will lead us in triumph if we dare trust and obey His teaching and receive His training. Yet, we are often like the football team that became sloppy and "beat ourselves". We often fall prey to spiritual laziness and boredom. We often fail to realize that we cannot simply wake up and proclaim our devotion to Christ. No, we must live it out. We must "do life" as we have been trained and then receive the coaching of the Lord to make us better to win at life!

One process we use in football to review, analyze and coach for success is "watching film". Watching film means that we review each play, over and over again, to look for what worked and what didn't. We "break down" each aspect of the performance, from an individual technique to a team movement, to determine what needs improvement for winning. Imagine if we could do this as individuals. Tape the day, play it back and see what could be done differently for a better tomorrow ... with Jesus this is entirely possible.

Reflection is a good thing. Reflection with Christ is a great thing. Reflection allows us to learn from our day and grow as led by the encouragement and coaching of the Holy Spirit. With God's help, we can learn from our day and grow for a successful and victorious future.

Watching "Life Film" with the Holy Spirit

17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
~ 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 ~

Listen to the Coach ... The Holy Spirit!

Watching film of our day with Jesus would be an interesting time. Here is a clip from my last training session with Jesus:

"OK, stop the film there ... Now Randy, do you see how you offended that person? Back that up - right there ... this person (Jesus with a laser pointer points on the screen to a man) asked you a question in a meeting. Now, run the film and watch how you respond ... see there ... you ignored him. Stop. OK, last week we went over this. You had an opportunity to share my love with this person and show them value. I clearly told you that people need to know I love them and I often show that through you and your actions. Now, run the film. OK, look at his face (Jesus points at the man's face). He looks sad doesn't he? Randy, we need to fix this. We need to get better here if you want to be used on the team. Next time, take the time and look him in the eye. Listen to him speak and "share life" as you yourself have taught. Come on, I know you can do this."

Wow! That's watching life film with Jesus. To make it personal simply insert your spouse, child, friend, boos, co-worker, etc. into the film and a troubled interaction. Now, how would Jesus teach you to handle the situation. This is the process of Godly reflection as led by the Holy Spirit!

God is here to give you life and life more abundantly. Abundant living comes from reflective living. As we reflect on life, with God's help, we will encounter mistakes, successes and receive the coaching of the Lord to get better. God will assist us with technique, training, strategy and a game plan for victory. This week, take time to review your day with God. Look at "life film" with Jesus and He will gently teach you and train you for victorious living.
