Greetings, Friends!
Whether we are ready or not, spring is upon us! The
warmer than normal winter has brought early life to
our trees. The good news is that it won't be long til
you can again pick those luscious strawberries,
delicious sweet cherries, beautiful peaches and
nectarines, and then, once again, it will be apple
time! Read on.....

Spring has sprung early around these parts! Many of
our peaches and cherries are in partial to full bloom.
It's certainly a spectacular sight! We do still have
some cold nights to get through over the next few
weeks. As is the case every year, we are closely
monitoring the temperature day and night (lots of
bleary-eyed folks around here these days!) until our
most vulnerable stage passes. We can take
some preventative measures, but it's mostly up to
Mother Nature!

Once we get past the cold weather stage, our fruit
will begin growing and ripening in earnest! At Chiles
Peach Orchard, we hope to be picking strawberries
by early to mid-May. Sweet cherries should begin
ripening in June, and then peaches will follow in late
June. Carter Mountain will open early in the summer -
watch for more updated information coming your
way soon!

We look forward to seeing you again soon! Thanks
for everything!

"So, What Do You Do in the Winter?" |
|
|
|
This is one of the questions we are most often asked!
Although the orchards are closed to the public during
the winter and spring months, there is still plenty of
activity. Trees need pruning (critical to good
production), equipment needs repairing, and new
trees need planting, just to name a few of our
chores! With 2006's warm winter and early spring,
we have really had to move quickly to get the winter
work completed! We also spend time attending
meetings and conferences to stay up to date with
new trends and technology in this industry. And,
before we can take a breath, it's spring!
