Greetings! Happy Fall! We at Carter Mountain Orchard are patiently awaiting that cool, crisp weather that means apples! Our first varieties have ripened, and we are now picking beautiful Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Gala, and starting October 1, Fuji. Current weather condidtions have resulted in a later-than - normal harvest for some of this year's crop. We anticipate picking Stayman, Winesap, Granny Smith, Braeburn, York, and several other varieties beginning approximately October 8th. Read on - our annual Apple Harvest Festivals are quickly approaching. Also, October means hayrides every weekend! The Carter Mountain Bakery is cranking out the apple cider donuts and pies. October means apples, and we love to celebrate the harvest! Please join us on October 1st and 2nd, and 8th and 9th for our annual Apple Harvest Festival. We will have lots of apples available for picking! In addition, you can enjoy music all day, hayrides (nominal fee), food and craft vendors, awesome pumpkins, apple butter, cider, and did we mention apples? Can't make it to the festival? Not to worry, Carter Mountain Orchard is open everyday! We are currently offering a wonderful selection of all things apple! Pick-Your-Own and pre-picked apples, fresh apple cider, apple butter, apple pie, apple cider donuts - you name it! Be sure to check out the offerings in our store - craft items, jams and jellies, an expanded line of gourmet food products, and much more. We offer hayrides every weekend in October, weather permitting. Enjoy the spectacular 40 mile view from our 2 observation decks - and don't forget your camera! Carter Mountain Orchard is located on Route 53 next to Michie Tavern and Monticello, in Charlottesville VA. We are open every day 9AM-6PM. Please visit our website for directions from your area.
