Chris Larson & Bruce Ayres Victorious At Sheehy Lexus of Annapolis Melges 24 World Championship

Despite tricky weather conditions the racing at the 2009 Sheehy Lexus of Annapolis Melges 24 World Championship was some of the closest and most exciting of the season with Chris Larson taking overall victory and Bruce Ayres claiming the Corinthian title.

IMCA Calls World Council Extraordinary General Meeting

Following the IMCA World Council AGM held in November (see details below) an Extraordinary General Meeting of the IMCA World Council has been called for January 12th to discuss and vote on two important proposed rule changes that could not be included on the AGM Agenda.

Lorenzo Bressani Wins 2009 World & European Ranking, Alan Field Takes North American Ranking
Uka Uka RacingDespite the global economic downturn the 2009 Melges 24 World and Continental Rankings still attracted a near record entry of 366 boats.  Lorenzo Bressani took victory in the World and European Rankings while Alan Field was victorious in the North American Ranking.

Worlds 2010 - Driving To Tallinn On The Via Baltica Now A Fast And Practical Alternative To The Ferry
Via BalticaWith so many Melges 24 teams planning their trip to Tallinn for the 2010 Worlds, intrepid Finnish Melges 24 sailor Arto Kiiski decided to check out whether rumours of the much improved road systems and reduced boarder control checks in the former Eastern Block Baltic countries were actually true.  What he found was better than anything he had expected and, as his full report reveals, driving to Tallinn is now a very fast, practical and interesting alternative to the ferry.  Click here for Arto's Full Report.

2009 IMCA World Council AGM Minutes Now Published
Melges 24 SpinnakersThe 2009 IMCA World Council AGM took place on Saturday 14 November in England.  Amongst the decisions made by the meeting were Rule and Constitution Changes for 2010 and venue allocations for future IMCA Championships through until 2012.

Danish Sailing Academy Seeks Melges 24 Sailors Age 17-25
Worlds 09 Start LineThe Sailing Academy Aarhus in Denmark has created a new training progamme headed by some of Denmark's top international sailors using Melges 24s and they are looking for sailors from around the World age 17-25 to take part.

Helsinki Boat Show 06The Melges 24 will be on display at Dusseldorf Boat Show, Europe's largest boat show, this coming January 23 - 31 so if you are planning on visiting the show make sure you swing by the stand and say hello.

Slovenian Class Continues To Grow As Peter Podunavac Wins 2009 National Championship
Slovenian Championship 09The Slovenian Melges 24 class has continued to go from strength to strength in 2009 and their national season culminated in the second Slovenian Open National Championship at the end of September which was won by Peter Podunavac.  With plans already in place for their 2010 Nationals this class continues to look to positively to the future.
