Greetings!
Bernie L. Wade, Presiding Bishop of ICOF, speaks on the confusion around the religious group claiming that they have interpreted the bible to say that Jesus is coming on May, 21st 2011.
"Ok. I am going to go on record on this May 21st thing. The Bible does NOT say the end will begin on May 21st 2011. This is so far off it would be laudible if it were not so serious. Having quacks claiming to speak for Christ is a blight on the Church. This is worse than the 'profits' (prophets) of the Global Warming Church with their Chicken Little cry of "the sky is falling!".
If Jesus had decided to come May 21st, He would reset the date. No man knows the day nor the hour of the Lords return. Not these folks (who may be well intentioned) or any of the previous prophets (profits). You can feel free to contact me on May 22nd because we will all be here. I am actually shocked that people are so poorly taught that they would fall for this kind of quackery. This is really sad. I am not moved by the apparent fact that this group is not asking for money.
In the book of Acts Simon the Sorcerer offered money to the Apostles. Simon the Sorcerer (also known as Simon Magnus) believed and was baptized. Outwardly he was a Christian but his belief was only superficial and he was still a pagan at heart. He coveted the apostolic office and saw the opportunity of using Christianity to make money - a business corporation masquerading as the church of Christ!!
Every few years since the Resurrection of Christ we have some person or group contend or pretend that they have revelation on the end time and that Jesus is coming because they alone have some new light or understanding. These almost always compound their errors by setting a date for the coming of Jesus, the end of the world, the beginning of the Great Tribulation or some like interpretation. The last well publicized one was in 1988. It was then we heard the 88 reasons why the Lord is coming in 1988. I countered then with the 88 reasons why he didn't come! Then we had the Y2K people telling us that would be the end. I wrote a series in 1999 called, "Confessions of a Y2K skeptic."
These people who are offering this "New Revelation" on the Coming of Christ, though they may be well intentioned are causing confusion that will cause people to mock Christ, Christianity and the Church. People will equate all followers of Jesus Christ with this mess. And trust me, it will be a mess. On May 22nd, 2011 when the "doom and gloom' prophets (or is it profits?) are exposed as frauds there will be a mockery of them, their methods their pseudo theology, and more. They will be the joke of the morning, the afternoon talk shows and be laughed at by the late night atheists. One of the mistakes these predictors make is trying to make Jesus come on a certain day. It is so unrealistic. Jesus is not on a man made calendar and further the 'day' is only the same everywhere in the world for 1 second! So to make Jesus come on May 21st, He will have to come in that one second before the rest of the world moves on to the next day! VERY unrealistic. When He does return it will probably be a different day of the week in other places than it is in America. Make no mistake Jesus Christ is coming back. He is coming back after people who have made themselves ready, without spot, without blemish, without wrinkle. When He does return we are to be ready. Let's not focus on when He is coming but rather let us focus on getting and staying READY! Watch therefore because you do NOT know when the Lord will return". |
