18 March 2011 THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY! (TGIF!)
A WEEKLY 'WWW (world-wide word) OF ENCOURAGEMENT' TO THOSE IN MINISTRY
OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU, PEOPLE OF JAPAN

As the overwhelming extent of the tragedy caused by the 9.0 earthquake that hit Japan becomes more apparent, we in New Zealand wish to stand by you as you stood by us in our tragedy less than 3 weeks ago.

Today Kathy and I went down to our waterfront, 9000km from your shores, and saw a troubled sea, a minute result, and symbol, of the tsunami that struck your land.

We stand by you in our thoughts, prayers and practical help, as you so willingly did for us.

JESUS TALKS ABOUT THE KINGDOM (Kingdom mentions in the Gospels)
David Tait   THE LORD'S PRAYER
9 "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10) Part 9

Last week we learned that our prayer 'be done' is actually activating the transfer of a spiritual heaven to a natural earth. Isn't that amazing!

So now we come to the final phrase of the prayer, on (or, in) earth .

The first and easy answer is to say that we, individually, are the 'earth' being talked about here. This is correct, as the Scripture says.

For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. (2 Corinthians 4:6-7)

But is it the whole truth?

If we go back to the Greek we can see what the prayer is actually saying. What is the real meaning of the word translated as 'earth'?

'Earth' is ge (pronounced ghay) in Greek. It means soil; by extension, a region, or the solid part or the whole of the terrene globe (including the occupants in each application): - country, ground, land, world.

You see, it is so much more than us, as people. We are part of the meaning, but only a part. The word encompasses the ground beneath us as well as what is walking on it. What a change in thinking is required of us! A physical transformation of the earth!

A transformation that we are already starting to see in some places. Almolonga in Guatamala is an example. The first 'Transformation Video' highlighted this. There has been criticism of these videos for the ideas contained in them are very radical to our human understanding.

The quote below is from a Christian writer, Carol Madison, who went there to see for herself what the situation was.

The Market Place

We were eager to return the next morning to the market place and not miss anything, so we arrived at 7:00 a.m. Within about an hour, we were in the midst of a whirlwind of activity as truck after truck began pulling up, overloaded with enormous, abundant vegetables. We took note of the trucks, many of them Mercedes, with Spanish words painted across the windshields (such as "Gift of God," "God's Blessings," "Jesus Is My King"). We took a picture of Nathanael in front of the "Gift of God" truck because that's what Nathanael's name also means.

The people began unloading the trucks and literally running with huge loads on their backs of cabbages, carrots, radishes, beets, and other vegetables. We noticed the dramatically different work ethic than what we had experienced in the other towns. The people were hustling, carrying unbelievably heavy loads, and doing so with great joy. This was obviously not a burden to them, and there was great excitement and energy all around us. Even the children were involved in the market. We observed the unity of the families and the wonderful respect and obedience of the children.

We began to see the dramatic sizes of produce that we had seen in the video. Again, nothing was exaggerated! The cabbages were the size of basketballs, the carrots as long and wide as a man's arm, the beets the size of softballs, and radishes the size of your fist. We were overwhelmed at what we were seeing. And it wasn't just the size; it was the abundance! I have never seen so much produce at one time. Piles and piles; bag after bag. It was hard to believe that all of this was coming from the small plots of land we saw in the valley. Each of these plots of land, farmed by individual families, produced several cycles of crops-apparently a 1,000 percent increase over what they had previously known. As a comparison, we looked at the vegetable in the other cities nearby, including Quetzaltenango, which was just two miles away. We bought carrots in Almolonga and Antigua, just to compare. The comparison is actually laughable because it wells up joy in your heart as you see the dramatic difference.

Jesus, in some of His final words on the earth said.....

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. (Matthew 28:18)

Authority, not only in heaven, but on earth also.

The Father too, is Father of both heaven and earth.

21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. (Luke 10:21)

May we never forget.....

26 for, "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it." (1 Corinthians 10:26)

Yes, God is bringing His kingdom to the earth - through us. The major blockage is our intellectual, educated, theological unbelief.

FROM THE WORD

Treasures in Jars of Clay

"Therefore, since through God's mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. It is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence. All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:1-18)

The Great Commission

"Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."" (Matthew 28:16-20)

"The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him." Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it."" (Luke 10:17-24)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
David Tait   RELIGION, REVELATION AND GOD'S KINGDOM
1070. As people we are inherently religious, for we enjoy feeling comfortable - even in our discomfort!

1071. Religion is revelation become tradition.

1072. Tradition is religion's friend, but the deadly enemy of revelation.

1073. Tradition moulds revelation into religion.

1074. Revelation revs 'Revs'!

1075. While knowledge is gained at a theological seminary, revelation comes from the father heart of God.

1215. The understanding that God's kingdom is available now is the greatest motivator of all for keen Christians.

1216. There's no need to wait. Seek God's kingdom now!

1308. Religion is based upon dependence, the kingdom, interdependence.

1309. Religion looks inwards, the kingdom, upwards and outwards.

1310. The kingdom is not centered round teaching and preaching, but rather, living out teaching and preaching.

Please feel free to quote these quotes. Acknowledgement of David Tait as the author would be appreciated.

CRANWELLS CARTOONS

6 After forty days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark 7 and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth. 8 Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground. 9 But the dove could find no place to set its feet because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark. 10 He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark. 11 When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth. 12 He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him. (Genesis 8:6-12)
LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***
312. GOD'S WILL
A farmer was on his way to town to buy a cow. On the way he stopped for a brief visit with his neighbor who was a Christian. "Where are you going today," the neighbor asked. "I'm going to town to buy a cow." Well actually, the Christian neighbor instructed, you ought to say, 'the Lord willing, I'm going to town to buy a cow.'" "What do you mean, I have the money, they have the cow, I'm going to town to buy a cow."

With that, he resumed his walk. Just before reaching the town, the farmer was mugged, his money stolen, and he was left unconscious by the side of the road. When he finally came too, and realizing all his money was gone, he started to limp back towards home. The Christian neighbor saw him coming, and hastened to help.

After hearing the story, the Christian farmer asked, "So now what are you going to do?' "Well, the Lord willing, I'm going home."

311. RENT IN THE SKY
"Once there was a Christian, he had a pious look, His consecration was complete except his pocketbook.
He'd go to Church and give his dollar and meekly close his eyes.
So glad his weekly rent was paid for his mansion in the skies."

310. PAINTING THE CHURCH
The Pastor was painting the church one Saturday to get it nice and spiffy for services on Sunday. He had two sides of the church done when he realized that he didn't have quite enough paint to finish.

Since he was many miles from where he could buy more paint and he was running out of time, he decided to thin the paint down so he'd have enough to finish the job. After finishing the third wall, he realized he had to thin the paint even more to make it stretch.

He finally finished and was standing back to admire his work when it started to rain. He watched in dismay while the paint ran down the windows and exposed the old color on the last two walls he had painted.

Just then lightening struck followed by an ear splitting clap of thunder. From the sky came a loud voice saying,

"Repaint, repaint, and thin no more."

FACTS FOR FUN
David Tait
LAST WEEKS QUESTION:
From where does the saying 'Hobson's Choice' originate?

ANSWER:
Hobson's Choice doesn't simply mean a difficult choice. It means no choice at all, rather like having to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. It originated from Thomas Hobson, a 16th-century stable-keeper, and a paid-up member of the amalgamated union of the bloody-minded. He only hired out his horses on a strict rotation system. Customers couldn't choose a horse for themselves. You got the one nearest the stable door or none! (What other choice did Hobson have?)

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
Is it true that hair and nails continue to grow after death?

SOME FUN FACTS

97. PILL FOR PIGEONS
In Budapest, they control the pigeon population by mixing birth control chemicals with the birdseed. (Do they still get 'Hungary'?)

98. 'OVER-STATED'
On a clear day, you can see five states from the top of the Empire State Building in New York City: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. (But are they looking back?)

99. CUT OFF
In ancient China, the crimes for abduction, armed robbery, treason, and adultery were punished by castration. (So there was no shortage of Eunuchs.)

LIFE'S A LAUGH

65. MORTIFIED
I was self-conscious about going to the gym because I thought the pounds I had put on would make me stand out among the spandex-clad regulars. I chose a treadmill in the corner so that I'd be inconspicuous.

However, as I exercised, my worst fears came true. At least a dozen people turned to stare at me periodically. I thought it might be my imagination, but then one woman even squinted to get a better look. Mortified, I stepped off the machine to leave. When I turned around, I realized that the gym's only wall clock was hung only inches above where my head had been.

66. NOT A GOOD START
During a murder trial in Texas the first words of the assistant district attorney's address to the jury were as follows: "Ladies and gentlemen, have any of you ever been the victim of a homicide?"

67. BIRTHING A GAME?
I'm an obstetrics nurse at a large city hospital, where our patients are from many different countries and cultures. One day while waiting for a new mother to be transferred to our division, I checked the chart and assumed that, because of her last name, she was of European descent. So when she was finally wheeled in, I was surprised to see that she was Asian.

As I was performing the exam, we chatted, and she told me she was Chinese, and her husband's ethnic heritage was Czechoslovakian. After a short pause, she quipped, "I guess that makes my children Chinese Czechers!"

68. MISTEAK OR CHICKEN!
On a flight home after a business trip, Bill was waiting for his meal. By the time the attendant reached his seat, only one dinner remained on her cart. Nonetheless, she followed routine by asking, Steak or chicken?"

Bill stared at the dinner for some time before responding, "Okay, I give up. Which is it?"

69. TOGETHERNESS
My Parents had not been out together in quite some time.

One Saturday, as Mom was finishing the dinner dishes, my father stepped up behind her. "Would you like to go out, girl?" he asked.

Not even turning around, my mother quickly replied, "Oh, yes, I'd love to!"

They had a wonderful evening, and it wasn't until the end of the evening that Dad finally confessed that his question had actually been directed to the family dog, laying near Mom's feet on the kitchen floor.

Study Shows Humans Are Uniquely Designed for Music

By Brian Thomas, M.S.
Special to ASSIST News Service

DALLAS, TX (ANS) -- Unlike other creatures, humans can compose, record, and enjoy music. A new study has identified a brain chemical that provides pleasure when people listen to certain music. Where did this amazing ability come from?

Children love music (Photo from ICR website) The study demonstrated that when a listener deeply enjoys music, the brain employs the same chemistry that brings pleasurable sensations from certain other activities. The reaction involves dopamine, a tiny chemical that is mostly produced by special cells near the middle of the brain to be used as a neurotransmitter to activate neurons.

Dopamine "docks" into a reverse-dopamine-shaped cavity in one of five types of larger receptor molecules. The attached chemical then triggers a cascade of biochemical events inside the nerve cell, and this complex, specified machinery triggers a pleasure sensation.

Dopamine is used in many vital body systems, and new functions for it await discovery. However, as a neurotransmitter, dopamine is also known to imprint the memory of a pleasure-causing event. (1) Valorie Salimpoor, a McGill University neuroscientist, told Discovery News, "The intense pleasure we get from [music] is actually biologically reinforcing in the brain, and now here's proof for it." (2)

She was lead author of the Nature Neuroscience paper that reported the findings. (3) She and the rest of the McGill team used PET scans, which produce brain images that can indicate neuron activity, to positively identify dopamine production "in response to music that elicited 'chills.'" (4)

Humans have a unique capacity to experience music. Dogs, for instance, hear the sounds of music but do not recognize them as music, and do not derive a similar pleasure from listening to them. This solely human characteristic, which has no apparent evolutionary purpose, makes sense if people were originally intended to enjoy their Creator through pleasurable activities ordained by Him.

Scripture notes in many places that participating in music is a means to commune with God and enjoy Him. (5) For example, "The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him." (6)

Earlier research into babies' physical response to music prompted the comment, "It remains a mystery how humans evolved our musical wiring, [though] it's now clear that we enjoy it and always did." (7) But it is only a mystery for evolution to explain. These discoveries confirm that people are the product of special creation, with musical enjoyment as a unique built-in function.

This poem was 2 years in the writing! The inspiration came, half was written, then I got busy on other things! In the last day or two I have had some spare time, so thought to finish it. (Actually I have had more spare time during the two years but never quite got 'a round tuit'!) I hope the result is worth waiting for!

MR BUMBLE (Part 1)

The other day I met with a bumble bee,
The two of us together, just him and me.
I asked, "How are you, my high flying friend,"
As our way down the road, we did gently wend.

"A 'box of buzzes' " said Mr Bumble, rumbling along,
In the prime of life - yes, a bee so buzzingly strong.
"I'm on the way to the garden down the road,
Plentiful pollen there, will get me a load."

"For I'm a worker bee you see,
One of many, in our big family,
We have a purpose for which to live,
Honey aplenty, to our hive, to give."

"Your life is a fulfilled one then,
A privilege not given many men."
"I guess it is, in following family tradition,
Feeding the hungry hive's a real mission."

"I learned what to do from my brother,
The Queen you know, is our mother,
It was Jimmy who taught me how to fly,
Led by example, encouraged me to try."

"But soon flight, I did learn to master,
With practice, went faster and faster.
Till now I'm known as the 'brmm-brmm bee,'
Always winning the race to the cherry tree."

"Of course, you know you can't really fly!" I rashly said,
As diplomatic as taking a sledgehammer to his head!
"For the 'Laws of Aerodynamics' you know,
State that 'up in the air,' you cannot go."

'Your shapes all wrong
To push you along!
Your body's far too big!
Ever seen a flying pig?'

In full swing now, big in my bumble bee knowledge,
Intensively learned during five full years of college.
"Your little wings wear out beating ten thousand times a minute,
Therefore your life span is only sixty days - at the very limit!"

Was somewhat surprised at my clever words' effect,
For these, I thought, he would automatically reject.
But to take on board my knowledge, he did elect,
My erudite words, to him they did only deject!

"You humans are simply so superior
Us bumbling bees, greatly inferior!
You know more about me than I do!
So what you say, must surely be true."

(To be concluded next week.)
