Sons of Italy Scholarship Competition Underway

Through the Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF) and more than 650 state and local lodges, OSIA has awarded nearly $50 million in scholarships to date.
Each year, the SIF offers 10 to 12 merit-based scholarships (National Leadership Grants), ranging from $5,000 to $25,000, in a nationwide competition.
This year, we are pleased to announce the addition of a special scholarship: The NIABA/SIF Scholarship for Law Studies.

OSIA National Executive Director Philip R. Piccigallo and OSIA National President Joseph J. DiTrapani presented $90,000 to Alzheimer's Association President & CEO Harry Johns and General Chair Princess Yasmin Aga Khan during the association's annual Rita Hayworth Gala at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
The Alzheimer's Association is a Sons of ItalyŽ national charity, supported every year by contributions raised through Sons of ItalyŽ members, special events and other fund-raising campaigns. This check was given as part of OSIA and the Sons of Italy Foundation's pledge to give a second million dollars to combat Alzheimer's disease.

In honor of Italian-American Heritage Month, OSIA's Per Sempre Lodge 2344 and Per Sempre Ladies' Lodge 2344A presented Lynbrook Mayor Bill Hendrick with an award for his contributions to the Italian-American community. In turn, Hendrick presented the two lodges with a special proclamation for their positive work for local residents.

On Wednesday, May 23, 2012, the Sons of Italy Foundation's 24th Annual National Education & Leadership Awards (NELA) Gala returns to the elegant Great Hall of the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
The NELA Gala is the SIF's most important fund-raising and public affairs event and highlights the foundation's commitment to educational excellence, leadership and the betterment of society. To date, the NELA Gala has helped the SIF raise nearly $118 million for medical research and support, disaster relief, and cultural preservation, with almost $50 million in scholarships awarded.
