SONS OF ITALY HONORS STAFF SGT. SALVATORE GIUNTA
WASHINGTON, DC - April 14, 2011- At its National Education & Leadership Awards Gala (NELA) on May 25 in Washington, D.C., The Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF) will present a scholarship to Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta.
Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, Commander of the United States Joint Forces Command, will introduce Staff Sgt. Giunta at the gala. Also among the honorees that evening will be the leadership of the Wounded Warrior Project, a veteran's organization focused on empowering severely wounded U.S. service men and women. The SIF is the philanthropic arm of the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), the largest and oldest national organization for men and women of Italian heritage in the United States. Since its founding in 1959, the SIF has donated nearly $115 million to education, medical research, cultural preservation, disaster relief and other special projects, including $50 million in scholarships.
