In Memory of the Hon. Geraldine Ferraro

OSIA is deeply saddened by the passing of the Hon. Geraldine Ferraro on March 26. Ms. Ferraro was an honoree at the Sons of Italy Foundation's 2007 NELA Gala, receiving the Lifetime Achievement for Public Service.

This photo was taken at the event, which marked an historic gathering of five women trailblazers:

Help Support National 9/11 Memorial Fund

9/11 Memorial The National September 11 Memorial and Museum, at the site of the former World Trade Center in New York City, will remember and honor the nearly three thousand people, including many OSIA members and innumerable Italian Americans, who died in the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001.

With the 10th anniversary of the attacks approaching, OSIA is raising funds to donate to this cause. With enough support, the Order Sons of Italy in America will be listed on the memorial itself as a main benefactor.

Support this effort by donating online (enter your donation amount in the "National 9/11 Memorial Fund" field).

Michael Valente bridge dedication

On March 25 in Long Beach, New York, a ceremony was held to mark the renaming of the Long Beach Bridge to "the Michael Valente Memorial Bridge." The Bridge was officially renamed in tribute to local World War I hero and Medal of Honor recipient Michael Valente.

Although Valente died in 1976 at the age of 80, his family, friends, fellow veterans and New York OSIA lodge members were present to mark this great honor at a ceremony at Long Beach City Hall.

Pictured left to right: NY State CSJ Vice Chairperson Enrico Annichiarico; Grandson of Michael Valente and President of the Michael Valente Lodge #2667 Ralph Madalena and family; OSIA National President Joseph DiTrapani; OSIA National Past President Joseph Sciame; NY State CSJ Chairperson Stella Grillo; and Chairman of the Garibaldi Meucci Museum Keith Wilson.
