SIF to Help Rebuild Center for Children with Autism in L'Aquila, Italy |
Picture: REUTERS  | This week, the Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF) will present approximately $235,000 to Fondazione Il Cireneo Onlus per L'Autismo to rebuild a center for children with autism in L'Aquila, Italy.
The presentation will take place during a visit to the region by
Sons of Italy leadership and comes nearly a year and a half after a
devastating 6.3 earthquake struck Italy's Abruzzo region, destroying
much of the ancient town of L'Aquila, including the center, and other

Photo: August 28, 2010-Maria Fassio Pignati, State President of the Grand Lodge of CA, sang "O Sole Mio" for the San Francisco Giants' pre-game entertainment at AT&T Park.
The Giants celebrated Italian Heritage Night through a partnership with the San Francisco Columbus Day Celebration, Inc., and the OSIA Grand Lodge of California. The evening was a celebration of San Francisco's rich Italian heritage and commemorated legendary San Franciscan, Italian American, and baseball Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio.
It was announced that the Sons of Italy Grand Lodge of California would soon be making a donation to pitcher Barry Zito's "Operation Strikeouts" which provides money to hospitals for soldiers wounded in military operations.

URGENT APPEAL:We need your help now.
The Advanced Placement (AP) Program in Italian that OSIA helped
establish in 2005 is in danger of being permanently eliminated for
lack of funds, according to the College Board which administers it. The
elimination of this program could lead to a decline in students taking Italian
courses in high school and college, because many students prefer to enter
college with credits from AP high school courses.
Join the Sons of Italy in its campaign to resuscitate the AP
Program in Italian. Please help us raise funds to preserve our language
and support this important language program.
