Friday eNews from the Cape Cod Chamber

January 13, 2012

From the CEO's Desk:
  • Thanks to the Arts Foundation for launching the Creative Collaborative Council - a gathering of stakeholders in the arts, sciences and cultural institutions to begin a dialogue on supporting and growing the Cape's creative economy.  The photos at right show participants who gathered at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod - including House Chair for the Joint Committee on Tourism Arts & Culture, Sarah Peake.
  • The Chamber is working to support New Horizons (soon to be renamed) which is a joint program of providers seeking to address crime and recidivism on the Cape.  We will be co-hosting a luncheon with them in February at the Sheriff's invitation at Barnstable County House of Correction.  Members will be invited.
  • We are planning a tour for designers to promote the Sourcebook of Architectural & Design Elements handcrafted on Cape Cod & the Islands.  Priscilla Wrenn is working with us to organize this event along with Clare O'Connor.
  • Both the Membership and Convention & Visitor Bureau pillars met this week to advance their action plans.  Both pillars are focusing on ways to grow wedding business on the Cape!
  • We taped a Sunday morning segment on Cape Cod Broadcasting with the SmarterCape Partnership - to air later in January, which helps explain the work that is going on surrounding the incubation of an innovation economy here.
  • Patti has been on the road promoting Cape Cod at another successful American Bus Association convention and then went directly to the NCAA event in Indianapolis to promote our sports assets.
  • We promoted Cape Cod at last week's Wedding Day Exposition show at the Seaport in Boston (see photo of our booth at right). We will also have a booth at several other Wedding Day Expositions in the coming weeks, including the January 22nd show in Andover and the February 11th show in Newport.
  • Don't miss a special segment on the "Aging of Cape Cod" on WCVB Channel 5's Chronicle this Wednesday, January 18th at 7:30 p.m. Among those highlighted during the segment will be the Cape Cod Young Professionals, Cape Cod Council on Aging and the Barnstable Senior Center!

Recent press coverage for Cape Cod included the following:

Provincetown is named "Best Resort Town" on the Best of GayCities 2011 list

The town of Barnstable is ranked as one of the "Top 20 Healthiest U.S. Metros"
