"If you recite the Mool Mantra a hundred and eight times on a mala, and do eleven rounds of the mala daily, you will not have to hassle for the Kundalini. It will be there in you, through all the chakras."
~Yogi Bhajan, 4/24/76
During the course of his life, Yogi Bhajan gave many practices to activate the Kundalini and expand our awareness. Some meditations are simple and take only a few minutes. Other practices take much more time, but also have a very deep and powerful impact.
If the practice of chanting the Mool Mantra sounds enticing to you, I encourage you to set aside a day for yourself. Invite some friends. If you are a teacher, arrange a special day with your students. Have good food prepared ahead of time. Sit together and do this practice: chant the Mool Mantra for 11 rounds of a 108-beaded mala. Depending on your pace, it can take 4-8 hours to do this. Consider breaking up the chanting over the course of a day with meals for people. It will be an amazing and sacred gift to yourself and to others.
In terms of setting the pace for the chanting, find a pace that allows the full pronunciation of the Mool Mantra, where the tongue can really hit the meridian points in the upper palette. If you go too fast, you could miss creating the vibrational impact on your psyche that chanting the Mool Mantra will give you.
Yogi Bhajan has said that the Mool Mantra has the secret of the Kundalini in it. May the Divine One bless you to meditate, find that secret, and experience the glory and dignity of your own enlightened Self.
Have a great 2012!
