The Power of Stillness
Who of us that attended White Tantric Yoga at Summer Solstice did not feel the pain and impossibility of the exercise where we held our elbows out to the side with our palms cupping our ears? In my little group of people we laughed and looked at each other in disbelief. How were we going to get through 62 minutes of this? Our antics continued on and off for a few minutes until slowly, one by one, we buckled down and went within to search for our strength, commitment and grit to persevere through it.
This is a memorable moment from Solstice that prepares us for the principal task in the Aquarian Age - to go beyond perceived limitations and to overcome the seemingly impossible. We will have to access our deepest strength and cultivate santosha (contentment) if we are to turn the tide of external events towards peace, harmony and global union.
What does it take for us to collectively raise the bar and go beyond our limiting beliefs? The answer lies in stillness during those precious moments where we recognize: "God and Me, Me and God are one."
As excruciating as the above exercise was, it only got worse when we became distracted and moved. This would renew the cycle of pain. Yet, in the single-pointed awareness of our own divinity, we can tap a power greater than any challenge and persevere. What a powerful awakening!
This year at Ram Das Puri, I was reminded that the true goal of Kundalini Yoga is not personal enlightenment, but rather service to others. In service to others, we cultivate endless energy and resources. Research shows that people are happier and live longer, more meaningful lives when they are helping those around them
I returned home with a renewed commitment to cultivating a life where stillness is central to my Being. Yogi Bhajan's teachings point to Sadhana as THE place where we can most powerfully and easily access the deep well of truth, a place where we cultivate the kind of energy we wish to project out to the world.
So from my Sadhana to yours, I look forward to connecting to you all through the ethers in the Amrit Vela where we soak in the pre-dawn energy, get crystal clear and live in the knowing that God is everywhere in everyone. As we commit to living from the light of our love, may we recite the inner mantra "how may I serve," and become beacons of light for all those we come in contact with.
With love and blessings,
Kia
