The rhythm, content, and tones of sound in the
Siri Guru Granth Sahib are Shabd Guru.
_______________

When we break up the words,

"Siri Guru Granth Sahib," into their

naad, the syllables of each word tell

the essence of the meaning of

Siri Guru Granth Sahib.

Every word has a naad, and every naad has a combination.

Siri (see + ree) means the

entire light of the sun's creativity,

Lakshmi. Whatever has been created, whatever is possibly created, shall be created or

can be created, is called siri.

Guru (gu, darkness + roo, light) means from darkness to light, from ignorance to knowledge. Guru is one who

gives you the technology to remove your ignorance about something.

Granth (gra, knot + un, ultimate + naath, owner, master, God) is that which creates the ultimate knot with

God. Anything which creates the ultimate knot with God is called a granth. Granth is not a book and can never be a book.

Sahib (saa light, infinity + hib now) is the totality of the here

and now.

HOW TO EXPERIENCE THE SHABD GURU

To experience the power of the Shabd Guru is straightforward: repeat any shabd out loud.

You may already have had this experience during a Kundalini

Yoga class or at a Winter or Summer Solstice

Sat Nam Dear 3HO Family -

The invocation of the prayers and presence of the Sikh Gurus is woven into practice of Kundalini Yoga. Yet there are other saints and mystics whose poetic compositions are included in the Sikh sacred writings, Siri Guru Granth Sahib (Siri Guru), about whom we may know much less. Many of them were part of the Bhakti movement which swept across India from the 13th - 17th c. These saints and mystics composed poetry in the language of the common people to convey a message of love which cut across distinctions of caste, education, gender and religion, and opened the doors to spiritual realization to one and all. Several of them were born before Guru Nanak, while others were contemporaries of Guru Ram Das and wrote compositions in his praise. Yet the writings of all of them were of such high caliber that they came to the attention of Guru Arjan as he was compiling the Adi Granth, the first version of the Siri Guru. In this class we will explore the life and times of these remarkable poets in order to gain an understanding of their spiritual writings. Through this study, which will include singing, we will learn how these spiritual seekers from diverse times and traditions came to be bound together in this body of wisdom and how their lives can serve as examples to us of spiritual integrity, wisdom and, above all, love. This class will be of special interest to those active in Interfaith work, and will be held on the morning of Peace Prayer Day.

Blessings,

Included in the Sikh sacred writings, Siri Guru Granth Sahib, are the verses of over 30 poets, scholars, and minstrels, in addition to the verses of six of the Sikh Gurus. During this class, we will learn about the fascinating lives and traditions of these saint-poets, among whom were Sufis and Bhakti devotees. Through hearing their compositions, we will learn how they came to be included in this divine expression of universal wisdom.

"Wahe Guru! As soon as we got home and I could not wait for next year! This experience is something that I will never miss, it is almost mandatory in my spiritual growth and spiritual relationships. I am so thankful that it is available to us and that our community is filled with so much love and light. We are so blessed that Yogi Bhajan left solstice for us to come back home to, and his presence is so alive there.
