A Note from Vimala
By the way, when you notice I have included the letter "u" in such words as "honour" or "colour"--where we Americans traditionally have dropped it--it's not a typo.

Each time I receive notes from people in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Tasmania, for example, I realize that when I see that "u" appear, it has a sense of dignity, a feeling of class, in line with our beloved English language--so I've decided to include it in my writing as well.

No, I'll not be not substituting the "s" for "z" as in the British spelling of certain words because I have an ingrained fondness for the letter Zz and its resolute lineage. What a letter!

Stories from the Heart

I can't believe it. But I know it's true and you're the one I've got to tell. Last year, cursive writing was taken out of our school subjects and we had to learn computers. Still, our teacher (I'm in 5th grade) told me she wanted me to turn off the computer at home for 30 minutes each day and practice some things about the way I wrote, with a pen not a keyboard. She said  it would have me be able to sing on stage in front of people without being self-conscious. My eyebrows went up and I said "What?! How did you know I like to sing? Besides, I could never  sing in front of people." I was really confused, but Mrs. Wilson just smiled with that look of hers and told me that when I was on lunchroom clean-up one day, she heard "this beautiful voice" coming out of the kitchen. She found out that it was me. She didn't say anything that day, because she wanted to speak to me privately. I told her I never sing in public, only at home when I'm in the shower and usually when no one else is home. It's always been a special private thing with me.

Anyway---she handed me a sheet of paper with your alphabet on it. A lot of the letters looked just like the way she wrote. She told me she wanted me to practice writing three letters each day: The Letter Aa, the letter Hh, and the double letter Th. She sat at her desk and showed me exactly how she wanted me to write them by themselves, and in lines, and in any words that had them inside of them. She asked me to show her my writing sheets when I came to school each morning, and she would look at them and tell me how I was doing.

I started that night as she said, and each day I got to like writing more and more,  and sometimes I wrote more than one sheet because when I wrote, especially when I had a bad day, it made me feel good, like someone liked me. So every night I did my writing along with my regular homework, and every morning I gave Mrs. Wilson my writing. Week after week she said really nice things about it, and corrected me only a little bit. And every few weeks she gave me new letters to practice. She told me to write the A and a forever because they started my name.

I don't know how my writing and my singing are related, but a few days after I began my writing, I started singing at home even when the family was there. They liked it and said such nice things about how it sounded. In fact my big brother Jacob said he REALLY liked my singing. This is why I'm writing to you.

Last week we had a school talent show, and the week before, Jacob told me I needed to be a contestant. Without thinking I yelled, "No way brother!" but he promised me he'd be right there for me, and sit in the front row. He said a few other things that had me see it his way, so I agreed because I trust Jacob, but I still felt scared. I got to choose the song, so I chose the one I've loved to sing since I was little: "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"---in front of an audience? Talk about scared!!

When I walked up to the microphone at the center of the stage I wasn't even sure I could make my voice work, but as the music started I closed my eyes and as I began to sing it was like the words were singing through me and I wasn't even there. I know that sounds weird, but it's true. I sang all the verses, and almost didn't want to stop. But when I sang the final "Why, oh why can't I?" the room was dead silent. Then suddenly everyone started clapping and cheering, then they stood up and kept clapping and cheering. I got tears in my eyes and tried so hard not to cry. And there in the front row sitting right next to Jacob, was Mrs. Wilson, with the biggest smile I'd ever seen on her.

She told me later that my courage was not only because of my brother Jacob, but also because of my new handwriting. Then she told me about your newsletter, and said that this just had to be one of your stories. So  I thank you, Dr. Rodgers, because now I sing whenever I feel like it, and as you can tell, I use your letters when I write, and they both make me feel special in a good way. As the song says, "The dreams that you dare to dream, really do come true." Thank you again, and God bless.

What is the Vimala Alphabet  Vimala Rodgers

After years of study and research, Vimala Rodgers developed The Vimala Alphabet. Each letter shape is designed specifically to bring your hidden talents and abilities to life. As you begin to adopt self-affirming writing patterns, you naturally release those that are self-limiting, and at the same time you reconfigure the neurological patterns in your brain. This process is invaluable for people who are determined to let go of the past and stride ahead fully expressed in life. In scientific circles it is called neuroplasticity or cortical remapping.  All it takes is pen and paper

Does it work? You bet it does! --- every time. Pick up your pen and experience it for yourself.

How to Begin

If you are among the courageous visionaries who want to transform their lives through the Vimala Alphabet technology, choose at least 3 letters:

  • The first letter is the initial of your first name - not nickname, but your real birth first name. If you adopted a new first name after your 35th birthday, use that as your first name. By writing this letter, you will experience profound personal changes.
  • The second letter is the Letter of the Week.
  • The third letter is one you have chosen in order to bring about a specific transformation in your life.  Choose a letter from the Vimala Alphabet Guidebook.

Follow these steps:

  1. Write at least 3 lines of upper and lowercase letters.
  2. Write on unlined paper in the landscape direction.
  3. No pencils, please. Use a pen.
  4. Begin by writing once, at the top of the page, the Declaration of Intent of the initial of your first name.
  5. Write the first and third letters for at least 40 consecutive days. If you skip a day, start over. 40 is the number of transformation; it takes 40 days for the neurons in the brain to realign themselves, which is what the process of adopting self-affirming handwriting patterns does.
Aspects of the Letters

Just as you have gifts unique to who you are, so does each letter. I call them "aspects." I'd like to begin our new venture by sharing one of those aspects, perhaps the most important one of all: the Guardian Protector.

Through the years I've studied hundreds of traditions throughout the world, and have found that within each one, there are such beings that we call called "angels" in English, yet are called by a different name in many traditions: devas in the scriptures of India, Al-Malaikah in the Qur'an of Islam, Malakh in the Hebrew Bible--and on and on throughout the world. To avoid religious distinctions, I call each one a Guardian Protector, because that is their role.

Trust me. They are as alive and attentive as you and I--just invisible, that's all--but fully present nonetheless. Create a conversation with them--then you will know. As with everything I teach, I insist that you do not believe what I say. To know in your heart of hearts that what I say is true, I suggest that you experience it by adopting suggested writing habits, along with applying the aspects of each letter, especially that of the Guardian Protector.

Letter of the Week - G

In all my books I describe this magnificent letter as The Letter of Prosperity. From having so many people interpret prosperity as "money," I have renamed the Letter G from the inside out: It is the letter of Gratitude...for Gratitude is the essence of true prosperity. It invites us to accept everything in life as an opportunity for spiritual growth---and that is truly the gift of all gifts. Rather than go on philosophizing, I've distilled Gratitude into the Declaration of Intent that describes it so succinctly:

I accept everything in my life as a gift:

everything and everyone. No exceptions.

(Please know that I have learned this not from theory, but from experience.)

Guardian Protector: Ooniemme (Oh-nee-EM)-the Angel of Gratitude

What do you give thanks for? It's natural to give thanks for parking places, green lights, and delightful relationships, but what about that toothache, the boss who simply doesn't listen, the raise you didn't get, and those pounds you seem unable to lose? Ooniemme's job is to allow you to see everyone and everything in your life as gifts designed especially for you, and to accept them as that: gifts. When something drops into your life that you want to wish away, call on Ooniemme to have you see it as a lesson that will boost your spiritual growth and fill you with a feeling of gratitude.

HOW TO INSCRIBE THE MOST

SELF-AFFIRMING LETTER
Gg

Uppercase:

  • Inscribe a generous circle open to the right, filling the mid- and upperzone.
  • Now draw a softly curved line from deep inside the circular shape, ending at the baseline.
  • Do not let this second stroke touch the initial stroke.

Lowercase:

The only lowercase 'g' I recommend is the Figure-8 g, because of its gentle, evocative nature.

  • Begin by inscribing a clean letter c in the midzone.
  • Curve the stroke as you come to the baseline, dropping it into the lower zone in a long, full lower loop on the right: "Like a full water balloon, " as one of my young students described it.
  • Finish by coming back up to the baseline with a curved, forward-ending arc.
High Flying Loops!
Some time ago our Newsletter Angel explained why the lower loops when we write become "high flying" loops in the newsletter. In case you weren't here at the time, let me explain, as simply as I can with my minimal electronic knowledge:

The formatting we use won't allow the loops to 'settle down' where they belong, especially when they
appear on a mobile device...and we know of no other program that will.

If these misplaced loops still bother you, you might want to do this: Practice writing lines of the Letter Ss(patience), the gh Ligature (non-resistance), and the Letter Zz (gentle acceptance of what is). You might also include a few lines of the initial of your first name, because that one letter holds within it your greatest opportunity for spiritual growth---a curriculum in itself, as it were.

Sursum et pergite! (Upward and onward!)

Please Join Us

Last year, several "Handwriters for Peace" members requested, and we formed, an Alphabetical Prayer Circle through which members could ask for specific prayers in emergency situations and we would hold both those intentions with our own intentions in our prayers.

Because it's time to expand the Circle, I'm inviting you to join us. There is no need to become a Handwriter for Peace, nor do you have to give me your name, only your e-mail address, as I send all Prayer Circle Emails as BCCs. If you choose to join us, please send an e-mail to vimala@vimalarodgers.com with PRAYER CIRCLE in the Subject Box and this message: I'd like to join your Alphabetical Prayer Circle.

To strengthen our intentions, each day we agree to spend a precious 10 seconds once---or many times a day---offering our Alphabetical Healing Prayer:

Fill each of us with Your Healing Light:
those of us in this Prayer Circle,
all those we love,
and all those we have difficulty loving.
Thank You.

Also...In the course of the day, each of us devotes a few minutes of quiet time to write, on unlined paper, one line of the initial of our first name (not nickname) in both upper- and lowercase. Just one line; that's it...more if you care to. Read more online...
